Hi Joseph - Thanks. I thought of that, and borrowed one a while ago to try. Certainly easier to coax my guys onto rather than into a kayak. Then the next issue: keeping them from leaping from it. Of course -- I'm a dog-trainer and if my interest in this were unalloyed I could and would take the time to train it (getting in, getting on, staying put) . But you may recall Cass' attitude towards this, which is indeed mine. While I'd love to have a dog with me, having a few hours in which on'es mindset is NOT so focused on keeping your fellas safe, is kind of nice. Nice enough to reduce my training drive. Thanks again. It is really nice for me to know that A Reader out there is a living, breathing human, and apparently one that shares some of my interests.

Ellie, I know you mentioned in the book about trying to get the dogs to go with you while kayaking, I have a suggestion you might want to try. Purchase a sit-on kayak rather than using your sit-in one. Or if you know someone who has one, borrow it to see if it would work.
