JuneMarie Friedrich A War Too Far: A Vietnam War Novel (The Airmen Series Book 1)

David Schwinghammer That's s coincidence. I'm reading IN THE LAKE OF THE WOODS by Tim O'Brien. It's about a soldier who was at the My Lai massacre. O'Brien also wrote one of the best books about Vietnam, THE THINGS THEY CARRIED. He won the National Book Award for that one. He served in Vietnam about a year after My Lai. He came to one of my writing classes when I was at SCSU.

JuneMarie Friedrich I will have to put that on my list. Seems I go crazy with reading for months then nothing for months. I recently switched to a Kindle which I said I would never do! So far I am liking it.

David Schwinghammer Do you keep a list of what you've read for the year? I know what I've read for like twenty years. When I'm done with one, I have another one ready. I can't get to sleep unless I read before I go to bed.

JuneMarie Friedrich I do not keep a list. I am just thankful that I take the time to read. My daughter's roommate in Chicago got me onto Good Reads.

David Schwinghammer Is it the University of Chicago? That's where Julie Schmid went. I get all of my books from Amazon. They are so ungodly fast. I joined Goodreads for promotion for my book.

message 7: by JuneMarie (new)

JuneMarie Friedrich No, they live in Chicago. My daughter works for Metler Toledo and Her roommate is a teacher.

David Schwinghammer I've been in Chicago, only once, when I was in USNTC boot camp. We went straight to State Street and a tattoo parlor. It was so cold in there you can see the zigzags on the one I got.

message 9: by JuneMarie (new)

JuneMarie Friedrich HA! Chicago is fun to hang out but I wouldn't live there. When they turn the river green in March is awesome!

David Schwinghammer I forgot about O'Hare airport. When I got out of the Navy, my flight was a couple hours late. I was so happy I didn't even care: I spent the time at the bar celebrating.

Do you still sing the national anthem at hockey games? You must be a Husky fan. I don't watch hockey usually, except for when the Gophers make it to the Frozen Four. As you many know they got upset against Quinnipiac. I went to SCSU for my BS and my Masters, but never went to any sports games except when they had the great basketball teams. Mike Trewick was on one of them.

message 11: by JuneMarie (new)

JuneMarie Friedrich I haven't sang at the hockey games in years. Last one was at the xcel energy center for the final 4
Are you living in St Cloud>

message 12: by David (new)

David Schwinghammer Nope, I wanted to write full time so I bought a house in Little Falls for practically nothing. I've been here for almost thirty years. I managed to write six novels and a flock of short stories.

message 13: by JuneMarie (new)

JuneMarie Friedrich WOW!

message 14: by David (new)

David Schwinghammer Not so much. Once you realize you have to write every day, you're thinking about your project all the time. I could write a first draft in about three months, but rewriting took years. Actually I thought that was kind of fun.
