Jonathan You might find 19th century editions of "The Texas Criminal Reports" to be very helpful--and they are free and easily accessible on Google books. For example, this link will take you to an interesting case about a shootout in a saloon. I find these legal documents often contain details you generally won't find in histories.

Goodreads won't let me post a link, but if you search for

"William Mace v. The State."

You will get a good example.
