Patricia Keefe Lisa I thought about this as well. There was a discussion about his father seeing him in the water when he was winning swimming awards. And he pushed him to excel as a swimmer. It had meaning for his sister for sure.

Lisa Yeah, the father put so much pressure on the poor kid! There's also an interesting line at his funeral where she says something like she's sitting between her parents, one overcome with anguish and the other guilt and it's not the ones she thought it would be. I'm thinking that means that she expected her dad to have guilt because he pushed him so hard and the mom to have anguish because she was so sad to lose him, but instead the mom must have guilt because she let the father be so mean and the dad has anguish because despite his harsh treatment he did love him. So interesting!

Savannah This was my thought as well. Definitely significant if he chose to end his life in water or out of water.
