Very good approach, the latter one. Maybe you could also draw up scenes and maps, or if that's not your cup of tea, you could collect images related to your story. That's work, too. Doesn't necessarily need writing, so it gives you a break from it and still, you might not feel guilty about not doing it. You'll still be working on your story. :)
This is so true! Mood boards are really fun to make for people who, like me, aren't particularly artistic. Thanks!
