Thomas Harlan has three sf novels about the Mexica empire and their Japanese allies in the far future. House of Reeds is the first in the 'loose' series....
Correction: 'Wasteland of Flint' is the first. Been a while since I read them.....

Thank you for these lovely recommendations, I finished a podcast series on the conquest of the Aztecs recently so I'm hungry for anything Mesoamerican, I haven't read Obsidian and Blood yet so I can grab that on my kindle as a thank you (but mostly a treat to myself :D )
