I agree, Ty Cobb was an S.O.B. --what is it they say? You should never meet your heroes (or learn about their personal lives) ;-)
There's been a few times that I experienced the truth in that adage.
I did meet a hero of mine recently. I met Bobby Orr and he was fantastic, a friendly down-to-earth guy.

Thanks for the answer. I kept reading your answers on your profile and came across this answer down at the bottom. Sorry to have bothered you. I guess that's the downside to having an intriguing handle.
When I was a kid, I grew up idolizing Ty Cobb, and then I grew up and found out he was a world class bigot who hated almost everyone. But he still was one of the greatest players.
