Speaking for myself, certainly. Speaking for yout fans, I believe the answer would be the same, actually. =)
I believe that two of the best aspects of social medias are to have access to people one would regularly have a lot of difficulty meeting and creating communities.
Granted, there are problems (people bothering GRRM to finish his books comes to mind), but it's a great thing to be able to chat with your favorite authors, like right now and to discuss books and themes with like-minded individuals!
