SO true; I asked my 94-year-old next-door neighbour what the public response was to the allied bombing of Dresden, because I cover it in the book, and was unable to find any reliable contemporary information about it. He responded 'It was mixed; some approved, some disapproved.' It was so valuable to get a first-hand account. My mother (born the same year) once told me about watching fighter aircraft in a dog-fight over her village in Wales, inland from a major port. Thank you for your answer to my question.
