That is a detail I probably wouldn't ever come up with! But I do put my dog in stories, to round out a character or their family.
It's probably a good idea to stay open and be receptive to ideas. Funny, I finally included a dog in my story. It occurred to me animals are such a big part of our lives. Of course I've always had the parrot, lol.
