She may have kept up with the role... here's an older picture of her which strikes me as very Cordelia from the "Gentleman Jole" period (except for the not-quite-short-enough hair):

I think Redgrave or Colman would work for how Cordelia is painted for my imagination. They both have a great mix of intelligence, regal bearing, and sensuous nature in their look and acting.

Wow. I absolutely remember thinking--way back when--of Ms. Redgrave while reading your description of her. Turns out you might have some promise with this writing thing. Stick with it. :)
