Thanks for this Stephen. We are investigating why, on Amazon, some books are included and some aren't. It's nothing that we have the power over as far as I know -unless we use it as a subtitle, which I have avoided up to now. But we definitely need to understand it better.
Thanks for the info about Goodreads too.
When you're uploading a book on to Kindle there's a box on the first page for 'series title' and 'number in series' - just did it myself this morning!

They aren't so labelled on Amazon, though, which is common but mildly frustrating - I often find myself using Goodreads or Fantasticfiction to navigate book series, as book names on Amazon often fail to give a series name or position, or are inconsistent in doing so.
Presumably the Amazon naming issue is in the hands of the publisher (or author in the case of self-publishers). It would be good to be able more easily to find the next in a series or the first in a series having stumbled across the most recently published.
