Craig Louis Thank you Jane. Do you know where could I find copies of the Cockatoo Island records that you mention ? It might be worth some of my time to take a look. Thanks again, much appreciated.

Jane Smith Hi Craig. For some citations of Cockatoo Island documents that might interest you, it's probably best if I direct you to Carol Baxter's excellent website about Captain Thunderbolt. On this page you'll find a list of references to documents pertaining to the prison there during the years that Thunderbolt was there. Here you go: https://www.thunderboltbushranger.com... . I had a look through my notes on Gardiner, and it seems I got a lot of my info about his time there from documents that were prepared for the petition for his release in 1874. These included copies of correspondence from 1859 regarding his Cockatoo Island incarceration. They're all on a microfilm that I was lucky enough to have access to through a descendant of the family. Good luck with your research, and please let me know if you find anything of interest.
