Mysteries got me hooked on genealogy. Why did William Merrell sell the land he bought on Staten Island in 1686 and move to New Jersey in 1687? Freedom of Religion? And why did his son, also William, supposedly get struck by lighting outside the door of the sheriff's house in 1740, the same William who had filed a writ of habeas corpus (being held against his will) a month earlier? And what happened to the next William in the family line who was dragged away from his home in North Carolina in 1781 by Tories and never seen again? My family is full of actual mysteries that should make a good mystery series!
