Sue From that same “throwaway line” I always assumed that Piotr’s parents SURVIVED the nuking of Vashnoi, to have been buried later in the cemetery at Vorkosigan Surleau, perhaps staying at the time in Vorbarr Sultana at Vorkosigan House.

Yet in Flowers of Vashnoi, Miles tells Ekaterin, “ “Most of my grandfather’s immediate family were there that day—both his parents, all of his surviving brothers, a boatload of cousins. ”

I’ve used both the VK grandparents AND Aral’s little sister (fairly often) in my fanfic well BEFORE Flowers was published. So. A retcon, perhaps?

In my headcanon, I picture the Cetagandans keeping all/most/some of the counts in their ancestral Vorbarr Sultana homes under a kind of house arrest, to be trotted out on special occasions in a Potemkin Village sort of display, to demonstrate how “benevolent” their occupation was. Y’know - just in case the IJC or any other galactics might be watching… but that’s me…

Lois Bujold Was Watson's wound in his leg, or his shoulder...

The occasion of much fanfiction, so ultimately no flaw, methinks. Glad you find my work so engaging!
