Ahoy, Lady Cynthia! I'm so glad I was able to help in some way. I think keeping stories fresh is always a writer's dilemma. Never forget to believe in yourself. Okay? Write what you love and forget all the rest. Chances are if you're writing what you love, readers will love it too. At least, that is what I keep telling myself. LOL!
Happy to have met you here! Best wishes for the greatest success in all you do!

You gave a helpful suggestion about asking my critique group what they expect or want in a pirate story. I'll have to hand out a survey.
My writing friends, are like your brainstorming partner, they write in different genres than I, so they would approach things a bit differently and assist me in making a story fresh.
Your advice about voice and past experience is spot on! There is no other pirate like me ;)
Sincerely, your most obedient servant,
Cynthia
