No worries at all about the phrasing. It IS a difficult subject, and it's often approached in a more graphic way. I've had a number of readers tell they're glad that it's not more graphic because they wouldn't have been willing to read on. It's a tough balance to strike between treating the subject authentically, engaging the reader viscerally, and still making it readable.
