Excellent advice Stephanie... thank you! I think that the more we make ourselves visible, the more publishers will pay attention (after all, there are many readers of a certain age, too, who want stories that they see themselves in). Perhaps we can get more attention from publishers through the power of the baby boom generation's seemingly endless appetite for new adventures, for pushing the boundaries of what is "allowed" at whatever age (for better or worse!) As for academia, I am not sure what universities can do specifically that is different than in the past. My experience is that they welcome older writers, writers of all ages actually, but that is only my unscientific observation. And I would not want to be sequestered into a program specifically for older writers! I think generations should mix it up. Happily, young writers, including the much talked about millennials, seem to embrace that...
