I like Crichton, Poe, London, and Dickens a whole lot, too! Great choices. I'm also a huge Clive Cussler fan.
I need to try Cussler. I only hear good things. I forgot CS Lewis. My first story, penned at six, was praised by my family until we all realized I had paraphrased Narnia.
I think you'd like Cussler. I would highly recommend Mirage or The Storm as a first one to try. (My firsts were The Storm and The Navigator.) The books are all stand-alones, even though they are from different series. His books actually improved later on... his first and second Dirk Pitt books were my least favorite of all of them. I'm a huge fan of his novels in general, though. I’m collecting every one of his books (I currently have more than 50), and read them very often.
