Faranae Ribisi is 5'7", which is slightly short for an American male (average is 5'10"; Ribisi looks shorter than he really is because Hollywood trends tall). Miles is 4'9" or was it 4'10"? I remember he got an extra tiny bit from surgery once. That makes him Little Person heighted, and as someone also in that range (the land of tall Little People!), I would want a fellow Little Person to play him, not a Big Person. I'm sure there's someone the right age and height for whichever book someone wanted to option!

J.M. Ney-Grimm I loved SNEAKY PETE, and I agree that Giovanni Ribisi would be brilliant as Miles. The height would be no problem—the same movie magic that sorted out the varying heights of Gandalf, Gimli, and Frodo in THE LORD OF THE RINGS movies could be used.

Faranae J.M. it's not a matter of movie magic. It's a matter of disability representation. There are lots of LP actors. Miles is, in terms of our society, an LP (cutoff height for LPSA membership is 4'10"). He's not a hobbit, he's a human with specific medical conditions which exist in the real world or are very similar to real world conditions. I think it would be legitimately difficult to find a suitable actor with brittle bone syndrome (and a matching able-bodied stunt double because hooboy, Miles...), but casting could at least find an actual Little Person to play a character who is, whether the term is used or not, a Little Person. Disabled actors have a hard enough time being cast without actually disabled roles going to able-bodied people. And just think, it would mean a lot less work and cost compared to LOTR!

I don't personally have an actor in mind because I don't "cast" characters from books.

J.M. Ney-Grimm You make good points, Faranae. I was perhaps a bit too carried away by my enthusiasm for SNEAKY PETE and Ribisi.

Steve Berliner Peter Dinklage FTW! Not even a question.

Angela Penrose Peter Dinklage is a great actor, but IMO he's too old to play Miles well. That's not necessarily an insurmountable barrier -- Alan Rickman was old enough to be Severus Snape's father when he played the part -- but considering how young Miles is when his main series starts, I think an actor in their late 20s at most would be better.

And everyone knows Dinklage now. Give another LP actor a shot at a great role.
