Dementia

[close] ...April 02, 2014 to May 02, 2014... For a decade, I was sole, unpaid caregiver for my mother who suffered from dementia. She died in April 2012 at 97. I write a blog journaling our experiences, and have published two books, "Begins the Night Music: A Dementia Caregiver's Journal, Vol. I" and "To What Green Altar: A Dementia Caregiver's Journal, Vol. II." What are your experiences with caregiving?

[close] Life with dementia is never dull; often has caregiving challenges that seem overwhelming. We will read books that give direction, some specific to dementia; some to grief, and others to self-care. Whether you are a family or professional caregiver; a dementia widow or widower---we can learn from one another---to have a life despite dementia.

[close] It is estimated that as many as 5.4 million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer's. In 2050, the number of people in the United States with Alzheimer's could reach 11-16 million. We love to read your stories

[close] A discussion and support group for people who are caring for parents, grandparents or loved ones with dementia such as Alzheimer's or Lewey Bodies disease. Parkinson's disease could be included as well. I'm hoping we can come up with a good book list on the subject.
