[close] Silence and complacency normalize unjust systems. To create change, we must actively work in solidarity with all people who seek justice. That means taking on the responsibility of educating ourselves and having difficult conversations about injustice — in all its forms. Echoing those calls to action, we invite you to join us in educating ourselves by listening to the voices and perspectives of people that are often unheard or misunderstood — the voices that represent issues critical to Mary’s Pence grantees and ESPERA women. From the 12 books selected for our 2020 Summer Reading List, we are choosing a handful to discuss online in the coming months. We invite everyone who wants to participate in the conversations to join us for our online discussions. One of the first steps we can take to end the silence and complacency of normalizing unjust systems is opening a book and turning the page. We look forward to learning and changing alongside you.

[close] The Social Justice Book Club at St. John's University aims to develop students critical thinking and racial literacy through reading, reflection and relationship. Join our club for a new book each semester.

[close] In our increasingly connected world, we are better able to open up and listen to each other’s stories. This ability is critically important as we move forward as a global society. In this book club we will be reading books that look at various social justice issues, from anti-racism to the fat activist movement, from queer and trans issues to poverty, these stories are all interconnected and make us who we are as a world.
