[close] This group reads tons of young adult books that deal with real life problems, dystopian books, and enjoyable literature that is often read in high school. Most of the young adult book we read feature themes such as drug and alcohol abuse, psychological disorders, depression, etc. We read a wide range to dystopian books. We also read tons of common high school required reading books such as The Giver, A Separate Peace, To Kill a Mocking Bird, The Great Gatsby, Anthem etc.

[close] A lot of Young Adult books these day are based on characters suffering from Mental Illnesses. When I was reading "Highly Illogical Behavior" by John Corey Whaley, it made me think of my own experience as a teenager with Mental Illness. So not easy! But reading helped me get through some tough times. I would love to hear other people's thoughts on Mental Illness in Young Adult literature. Do you think it's helpful? Do you think it's accurate? Is there an illness you wish they'd write more about? The questions are endless! I've tagged a lot of authors who have written about mental illness, so hopefully we can get a good discussion going.
