Modern Literature

[close] This is a book club where we read classics and modern classics. Every book we read will have literary merit. It is not required of members to read the books that the group is reading, although it is highly encouraged. Polls will be used to determine which books will be read next. Each poll will have 7 books as options to vote for. To ensure that there are versatile options to vote for, each of the 7 books will be from a different time span, one from each of these: 3000 BC/BCE-1300 AD/CE 1300-1800 1800-1855 1855-1900 1900-1945 1945-1970 1970-Present Note that there may be exceptions to this rule. It is encouraged that members provide suggestions for books to read, although it is unlikely that the book will be read immediately. It will likely be put on a list of books for later. All books that are suggested must have some form of literary merit or be considered a classic or modern classic. Have fun and happy reading!

[close] Inspired by 'Reading Lolita in Tehran' of Azar Nafisi (check it!!), 'Reading Lolita in NL' is a book club with political, philosophic (mostly existentialist struggles), humanist and feminist nuances, but extends to all great books of humanity that deserve to be read before they burn in a fire, or before our retinas stop working. With all that said, we celebrate the liberating power of books, we share ideas, and we open our minds to books that we would have never tried before .

[close] A place to discuss all the unique aspects of Deaf culture as highlighted in the thriller Silent Fear (A novel inspired by true crimes) by Lance & James Morcan. This group can also be an intersection of sorts where Deaf and hearing people can engage and learn from each other.
