Naval history is the area of military history concerning war at sea and the subject is also a sub-discipline of the broad field of maritime history.

When she arrived in Castine the USS Comfort was a tired, World War II vintage Hospital Ship. Her keel had been laid as a Maritime Commission C1-B hull, which was most frequently used in the construction of troop ships.
