[close] Welcome to Ashwick Valley, a town with an interesting past. Ten years ago, a small, unmarked plane crashed on the outskirts of the town, killing the two pilots and releasing a mysterious chemical into the air. This chemical caused a lot of sickness, and in some cases, death. The town was quarantined and isolated. Those individuals who survived the illness developed strange powers. They are known as the "originals". The gas in the air slowly disappeared, but never completely cleared. Some children still contract a mild form of the sickness. The signs appear around ten years of age. If you make it past your eleventh birthday without getting sick, you are considered "pure." The children who gain powers are called the "tainted". The pure and the tainted have learned to live side by side, but there is always tension in the air. Most of the tainted try to hide their powers in order to fit in more easily.
