[close] The only way to know the future is by being aware of the past, the present, and its trends. Since we know we can't see the future, at least we can guess and narrow down our forecasts - but to do that, we need knowledge. We create this reading group to fill the gap between where we are now and the times to come. We aim to get a broader perspective, a bigger picture, a bird's view. A reading group focused on utopias and dystopias that make us think, books and essays that put us aware of our environment, futuristic innovations, and tales from the past, that teach us how and why the things we have today are like they are, and maybe help us to know how to change them. The group proposes to read around one book or essay (article, interview) per month, ~12 books in total. Books about finance, history, political and philosophical questions. Books about happiness and how to live a better life. Are these the tools to survive in this information society? We think so, if you don't agree, join the reading club and prove us wrong! [close] This is a group supporting the idea that there is a paucity of current fiction being written about the era from 1960 to 1980. The tumultuous period of Cross-country trips, a generation gap and the social movements of anti-war, pro civil rights, plus woman's, and gay liberation. The period from what might be called the first Liberation Lit book, "On The Road", to Tim Robbins string of irreverences in the late seventies, with "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues"providing a good example. But what writers are reflecting back now on this period of huge change and a restructuring of the entire social contract? Where are the novels to finally end the divide between the returning soldier and the protesting hippie? Where is the closure that is needed as baby boomers enter their old age. They need art to reflect their sense of all this finally being past.

[close] This is a group for readers, writers and above all thinkers. This groups is for people from all over the world who want to learn and understand the world that we live in, by gathering general knowledge and thoughts on the subject. Members can share suggestions of pertinent books for that purpose, and discuss, comment their content. Or other subjects that are relevant.

[close] A place to discuss all the unique aspects of Deaf culture as highlighted in the thriller Silent Fear (A novel inspired by true crimes) by Lance & James Morcan. This group can also be an intersection of sorts where Deaf and hearing people can engage and learn from each other.
