Ok. So I think I will enjoy this book better than what little I read of 50 Shades. The writing is a little better, I have more interest in the story line aside from Eva and Gideon. She is smart.I am only 44 pages in but I think I may finish this book.
Then I will pass. I just gave up on another novel, and had a co-worker tell me she wished she could get that time back lol.
Did anyone vote on the books of 2013? Any of your picks win?My picks that won are Doctor Sleep-Stephen King, And The Mountains Echoed, The Day the Crayons Quit, and Eleanor & Park.
ALL DONE!!I will add Clive Cussler to my list of favorite authors if I read another book as engaging as this one!
I am just under 200 pages in and boy am I hooked! The microbots (that were so small they looked like slime) took over a ship and it's crew, but not before one of the crew members set the ship aflame. The fire killed some of the bots so the rescue team found them in the soot.Fast forward, a little, and they are trying to take over another vessel carrying half of the rescue team. The other half of the team has left to find the creator of these particular microbots.
Good so far.
I didn't read the book but saw the movie. Not an author I would pick up to read too often. I read The Stone Monkey years ago after the Bone Collector movie. Wasn't bad, but still not a enjoyable read all the way through.
Being a mother and wife, working full time, doing all the "motherly and wifely" duties, I find getting me time to read difficult. I have books stashed in different places which is why I read so many at once.I have a book in the car, I have several under my desk at work for when I can sneak a few moments. I have one in my bathroom. I have books on my phone lol. They are everywhere.
I NEVER have even a uninterrupted hour to read. How about you all?
I'm reading The Storm now. I haven't gotten that far yet. I am behind on some of my other challenges. I did get to the first supernatural killing. I can't wait to see how the past (first 2 chapters) relates to the current misty swarm that causing the cooler water temperature in that area of the ocean.
I was thinking that we could use the winners of the Goodreads Best Books of 2013 as our "group" reads for 2014.What are your thoughts? I may do 2012 too.
I just picked this up from the library. A guy at my job really enjoys his books (because it's a MAN BOOK lol).I hope to get it finished by the end of the month.
I received this book through the Giveaway program here. I am so behind on reading/reviewing this book. Anyone else win this?I plan to start reading this weekend.
I am all done. Gray did open up to Jeanne and told the whole sad story of what happened to his brother, while at the funeral of his Aunt. Fast forward to "present time": Gray finds that he has acquired some of fathers traits that he is trying to squelch; he and Jeanne has had a full life complete with child & grandchild.I enjoyed more the historical information in the book more so than the actual story, I found Gray to introverted and depressing almost. But he always lit up when speaking with his Grandmother and Jeanne.
I barely watched the movie, I don't think I can stomach the book.I read a book called "Rape: A Love Story" by Joyce Carol Oates and I have flashbacks of that story. (shudder)
Ebony, the book is very good. Gray is now in Mali in part 4 and he is learning "who" he is. He even called the woman he loved from Timbuktu to answer a question she asked him that he refused to answer because he was hurt and embarrassed by the answer. There is hope for him, lol.The book is about 315 pages long. I am at 249 but I just realized just how slow I can read sometimes lol.
Part 3:Is mostly about Gray's love for a Haitian woman from his university. How much he loves her for what's inside. He also gets a new story from his grandmother.
Part 2 is historical/fact. A professor from the University of Ghana, after telling the black senior class that "we (blacks) have no insides", eventually gives a lecture about the Queen of Sheba (actually the Queen of Axum), King Solomon, and their son Menelik. He has a little debate with a student regarding the Council of Nicea and how Jesus became a deity. A lot of education in that Part.Graylon begins to connect the dots of his grandmothers dreams with these newly learned facts.
The book is broken up into 4 parts.Part 1
We meet the main characters, Graylon and his grandmother, his parents and "perfect" brother, Gordon. Graylon has a special relationship with his grandmother, Makeda/Mattie. While in elementary/Middle school, Gray visits her almost everyday. By the time he reaches HS, his family has moved further away from Mattie so he sees her only on Thursdays. They talk and she tells stories. She is blind from birth but dreams in color of her past life or lives. She tells Gray, who has decided he wants to be a writer, all about her colorful dreams of being one of the Dogon people of West Africa. Gray finds her stories very interesting and starts to research the places and things she mentions.
Part 2 - Graylon goes to college.
I recently started reading this book I won on another site. It sounds like it will be really good. I am only about 50 pages in and it seems like a book where you want/have to read every word. The story is vivid with "factual fiction". The reviews so far have been very good.
