That's great! East of Eden is a top three book of all time for me. I think you'll enjoy it!
I surprisingly really liked The Wayward Bus. While not being one his best works, it still was very enjoyable and interesting. Definitely recommend if you like Steinbeck :)
After just finishing The Grapes of Wrath, I now moved onto The Wayward Bus by Steinbeck. I found it at a second hand store and so far, it's great for one of his lesser known works.

I also adored Of Mice and Men. I'd highly, highly recommend East of Eden. It is my second favourite novel of all time, and I think it is a contender for one of the best ever written. I'm currently reading The Grapes of Wrath and am really enjoying it! I plan on reading more of Steinbeck's books this year, like The Pearl and Cannery Row.

Both have similar writing styles.
I actually find the goodreads reading goals annoying. It makes reading seem like a challenge, which in doing makes you rush through books. It's not about how many you read, it's about enjoying and learning from what you read. If a book takes you a month to read, it shouldn't be a problem. Some books require to be read slower than others. The goodreads goal, I find, eradicates that. I don't know about you guys, but I definitely rushed through some books this year to keep up with my 'goal', and that's just not good in my opinion. Reading should never be something that is rushed just to fil a silly goal. So, rant aside, what I'm trying to say is: Go at your own pace. Enjoy and learn from what you read. It's not a competiton! Having a goal for reading should never be something to feel insecure about :)

Ooh, nice! I still haven't read Wells, but I would like to read one of his works. Have you read any before?
I went to second-hand store yesterday and found a really cool old copy of The Book of Lost Tales II by Tolkien, as well as The Midway Bus by Steinbeck. The latter I was shocked to find, since it is not one of his most known works, but I'm so stoked I did. Sometimes, you can find great books at second-hand shops, just got to be willing to look. But overall, two awesome finds! Glad I was forced to go op-shopping.

Hope you love Return of the King, it's my favourite novel of all time! I also want to read The Brothers Karamazov and The Secret History.
Merry Christmas!

Oh, I'm glad to hear that! So far it's very interesting and well-written. The wiring took a bit to get used to, but once I did I started loving it. I thought I would be struggling to understand it, but so far it's been pretty easy. A lot of interesting ideas, though. Not a book you can speed read, so to speak. But I am enjoying it!

Jesse wrote: "Wow, you guys have read many older classics than me. My favourite is East of Eden, which is my third favourite book of all time (unless The Lord of the Rings counts, because that is my number one)...."East of Eden is still on my tbr. :D
The Lord of the Rings definitely counts as a (fantasy) classic! Tolkien really was a master of language, his works are admirable in their depth and very interesting from a linguistic perspective...
East of Eden is so amazing, hope you enjoy it!
They really are! I love his books so much. I still think he is one of the greatest writers, and The Lord of the Rings contends for one of the greatest books ever written. So timeless!
Wow, you guys have read many older classics than me. My favourite is East of Eden, which is my third favourite book of all time (unless The Lord of the Rings counts, because that is my number one). I have mainly only read modern classics, so my other favourites are Of Mice and Men, The Catcher in the Rye, and The Outsiders. I am currently reading Crime and Punishment, which is my second or third foray into strong classics. iIn 2024 I plan on reading more strong classics, like Grapes of Wraith.
Hey, I'm Jesse! I recently got into classics seriously this year and am loving it. Can't wait to talk to others about them and read many more. My favourite classic so far is East of Eden.
