Most everyone quit this one. I'm close to done, Bank promises to finish too.

Pat, I just sent you an invite (and deleted your last message, to keep the internet robots from scooping up your email)

Thanks neu for the recommendation. We're going Scifi, hoping to capture most everyone's reading preference (looking at you Hetal).
Most of the book chat will take place in Slack, try to avoid dropping fat spoilers. Goodreads is always a good place to discuss spoilers (that is if the discussion can not wait until everyone is caught up)

I finished! When do we get our sit-down with the author and have a group review?

Soon. Maybe tonight. Definitely be done by this weekend.

Can we get a version with chapters?

The next book is by our own Andrea Tefft! If you need a copy, email me or bank and we can email you the digital format. Here's hoping Andrea survives, when we were discussing the first sentence, the poor girl broke out into a sweat and almost had a heart attack.

I finished. I liked it. I liked tons. I found the book sad, finishing left me in a warm somber mood... in a good way.
I really wish I knew another language.
I'm looking forward to hanging out so we can chat about it.

I'm going super slow. Steph is well past half. I'm only 100 pages in. I'm really liking it. The only issue is that it takes me forever to get through just 10 pages and the names are just now starting to settle in my brain.
I'm really digging the environment and how well the author paints that world. I find myself craving more spare time to go back. I also find myself wikipedia'ing a ridiculous amount of stuff. WTF is Batavia? "The Netherlands from 1795 to 1806 as a French vassal state".... aaaahhhhhhh okay.

> the writing is really beautiful
Which makes it a nice pick to contrast our last read :p

Just started. Neu, you didn't like that first chapter? I thought it was good, a bit nuts, but good. I can already tell this is going to be a book I need to read with my dictionary.

I know nothing about this book or the author—may be my favorite way to consume media.

I can't believe you finished! After the last comment, I figured the book would fall to the wayside.
So is everyone done? If yes, then maybe PLAYER 1 Video Game bar this weekend?

When everyone is done reading, lets all meet up at PLAYER 1 video game bar. I've never been. We can have a beer, make fun of the book.

Just learned that the audiobook is read by Wil Wheaton—unsure if that makes the audiobook better or worse.
only needing to be awake to procreateFalse. Haptic fleshlights with deposit transport tubes that sends emissions to OASIS HQ then forwarded to receipt's haptic dildo.

I read a few of the other goodreads reviews, most of the negative ones poopoo'd the references. It's cheesy and campy but not so much as to make me disdain.
OASIS is written very much like an inception dream but "in reality" (lol) OASIS would never compare. Wearing a bunch of tech with haptic feedback could never match straight brain interaction.
If IOI was smart, they would give up looking for Halliday's egg. They'd invest all their money into inventing headjacks and building The Matrix and make OASIS obsolete.

Haptic fleshlight.

I never posted my final thoughts. I really enjoyed this book.
Now that months have passed, the parts that have stuck with me:
All the sex talk. Even though it was mostly depressing, it was fun to read and very relatable.
The psych hospital in the woods. I still remember the feeling of being there. The juxtaposition of feeling isolated/alone/cold/sad vs friendship/warmth/music.
Now all that is left is watching the movie.
