I really enjoyed Looking. A lot of people had trouble with it since it has a slow build but I thought that was interesting. It's by the guy who did the movie Weekend - which is also really great.
I just did an interview with Edge on the Net. Take a peak if you have a moment.http://www.edgeonthenet.com/index.php...
I was thinking about a fun book I read a couple of years ago, Remembrance of Things I Forgot by Bob Smith. You guys might like it.
I contacted Are and found out that my publisher had put it under general mystery so it was only on there sister site Omnilit. I had them put it under Romance/Suspense/Mystery so that it would be with my other books. A little weird, since it's not what I would call a Romance Novel - as I've mentioned - but to reach the right audience I have to call it that. Anyway, My Favorite Uncle will be at the WildeCity website for a week or possibly more before it hits Amazon and other sites. If you want to get it right when it comes out you'll need to go there.
Thanks Otila.I'm with MLR so you won't see the books at Riptide or Dreamspinner. Smashwords and Lulu are self-pubs. My self-published books, including Little Boy Dead are on Smashwords. Boystown 6 is at Allromancebooks - they sent me a link - but I can't get it to come up there either (unless I use the link)
Here's a question from the author:I'm having to put together a press plan for Boystown 6. A little late in the game, I know, but... are there any sites, reviewers, etc., you guys regularly - or even irregularly - look at to find new books. I know a lot of you probably rely on word of mouth here at goodreads but I thought I'd ask...
Marshall Field is now Macy. The building is there. And I think the Walnut Room is still a restaurant. But it's Macy's. Which pissed off a lot of people, believe me.
Actually, while you're at the art institute take some good shots of the stairs. In Boystown 4 there's a benefit that takes place there. They do actually rent it out. Shots of the pedway, of course. If you like Mexican food you can go to either El Jardin or Las Maniatis (on Halsted). Both are good and both are mentioned in the books (though I think Las Maniatis is coming up...) El Jardin looks about the same, though Las Maniatis expanded from one storefront to three.
Of course, you could go into the Melrose diner on Broadway. Or Ann Sathers on Belmont. Ann Sathers might be a more interesting treat. He goes there in Boystown 1, Little Boy Fallen. That would be cool to have some pix from. Even a photo of a cinnamon bun would be cool.
His office is somewhere in the 3200 block of Clark across from the senior's building (10 stories)...
Of course, you can stop in at Unabridged Books - which is mentioned somewhere. They usually have a couple copies of the books.
When I go to Chicago these days, I mostly hang out with my friends. But... if you want to go up high I suggest having a drink at the restaurant on top of the Hancock rather than the observation deck at the Willis (Sears) Tower. It costs about the same. If you go to Boystown you'll be pretty comfortable at The Closet, I think. It's always been pretty mixed. Sidetracks is there still and you should okay there as well. And then there's Berlin (which I call Dresden in the books) and that's always been straight and gay. FYI I use fake names for places where I might change actual history... Dresden I could burn down if I chose. Berlin I couldn't...
The Lincoln Park zoo is fun and, of course, you have to go to the Art Institute. It's a world class museum.
Rosa, I'm thinking of putting together a "walking tour" of photos on Pinterest... if you take any "Nick" pix send them to me...
Rock Hudson's death and Liberace's death were both pretty big news. In retrospect they're more interesting for the details surrounding them than the fact that they died. I remember there was a big to-do about Hudson kissing Linda Evans on Dynasty. By that time it was pretty well established that AIDS was not transferred by kissing (otherwise it would have spread more quickly and much more broadly). But, the press made this huge thing about it and most of America thought you could get it that way.
Liberace was interesting because he attempted to cover the whole thing up with that ridiculous lie about a watermelon diet.
I lived in Chicago from 1980 to 1987. They say you should write what you know. In a genre like mystery that's not possible. I'm not a PI and have never been involved in any sort of murder. But, it's good to have elements that you are comfortable with. I knew I'd be comfortable writing about Chicago in the 80s. I worked in the loop a lot since I was a temp for four years. I remember being in the pedway several times, but I had no idea how big it was until I researched it. I mentioned the pedway to a friend who's lived in Chicago for thirty-odd years and they said, "Oh, it's just under a couple of buildings."
Even Chicagoans are pretty unaware of it.
Well, Francis Bacon was gay so it will be a gay mystery. It's definitely not m/m. I have no idea if they're any sex in it...
Awards are always subjective. The finalists and the winners are chosen by volunteer committee and each year the committee is different. I haven't read Janice Law. If you read one of the books let me know what you think.
