148497 I am probably the most excited about this one for the rest of the year as it has intrigued me for a while.

Have you read it, will you read it, thoughts???

148497 This one has been in my TBR pile for a while. Going to dig it out and read it finally!

Share your thoughts in this folder.

148497 I am still working my way through it but your assessment that it's a much better version of To Kill a Mockingbird gives me hope. I find I can't read it before bed...I'm reading the same page over and over again!

148497 that is a good question about where it's mentioned in the series. I'm gonna see if I can find it. hardest thing with some of the lists are they compile books just even mentioned but this one has been on every list I've looked at. so stay tuned for that answer!

148497 Reading the list? Just reading for fun?? Let's have a challenge.

Read books that spell out HALLOWEEN or SPOOKY.
Bonus word: OCTOBER

Books must have the letter as a first letter in a word of the title or first letter of the author's first or last name.

To make it fun, points will be awarded per book. 1 point for the letter, 2 points if the book is on Rory's list (this will allow us to read books outside the list of needed, as I know many of us are in multiple groups on Goodreads). Because I'm offering the prize of chosing December's words for the most points, you can read one word, two words or multiple the word (so you can read books for SPOOKY 2 or 3 times). Word can't be used more than 3 times and books must be different to count!

I hope this makes sense. Post any questions below and your lists!
And as always, message me if you need help!

148497 This is the discussion thread for A Passage to India.

Who's read it for starters? I haven't yet so I might have to take the time this month to do so.

148497 This topic discussion is for the Fall of the Athenian Empire.

To start, who's read it already? I know I haven't and it sounds kinda interesting to me!

148497 I didn't realize how much of thos book I have memorized. One of my favorite part is the lesson it teaches. One I have to remember more sometimes. I think it's so easy to get wrapped up (no pun intended) in the bustle of the holiday that sometimes the true meaning of Christmas lies with things that aren't bought, packaged or wrapped. I have spoiled my kid for years at Christmas, not because he needs the things, but rather the joy he has and the time we spend doing the lego sets and the board games. I think as a society we may learn that things don't have to be commercial to have value and we can just be together and have it mean something.

148497 Happy December!!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is probably my favorite Christmas story. I know I am reading it with my students on the 16th as our "Day Before Break Party" this year (and then we are going to watch the movie and compare and contrast, gotta keep it teachery right!?)

So feel free to add your thoughts, analysis, opinions etc!

148497 We are going to bring the group back to life. I had to step away to write my dissertation, that's has died down a bit (I barely could read anything except for journal articles, snooooooozzzzzzzze!)

Hopefully, we'll be up and running again here soon!

148497 ladies and gentlemen, I am in need of someone to take over as a moderator here. I am entering my dissertation process and I thought I could keep up with everything and I cant. work and school are dominating. I'm willing to stay on a discussion leader but I am needing someone to take over lead of running the ship for now. Thanks in advance!

148497 we haven't done a vote in 2 months. I'm posting August's poll tomorrow. I have been out of town the last 2 weeks.
Jul 27, 2021 06:23PM

148497 I had to step away for personal reasons for a month. Sorry everyone, should have put someone else in charge but didn't think I'd be gone for a month. We will skip Q3 poll and have a free read for Q3 and then pick up with August's book of the month.

148497 I can do a summer reading challenge again. I'll check into archiving old discussions, I know we use them for re-reads so we don't double back but I think this might be too confusing. I can also create a "List" thread for people to keep track. That's easy enough to do.

148497 This is our May book! Be on the look out for post from our discussion leader.

148497 Thoughts so far? I read this last summer and loved it. I can't wait to see other peoples thoughts.

148497 1984 is our Quarter 2 re-read for 2021.

At the expense of creating a new thread we will use this one unless it becomes too daunting.

Personally I'm excited. This one has been on my TBR list for a LONG time.
