156919 Riley sniffed and flicked his tail, ignoring her apology over nothing. He yawned, there really was only one thing he could think of to prevent her from freezing all night. "Scoot over." He grumbled and stepped into the nest. "It will be warmer this way." He continued matter-of-factually, he didn't have any ulterior motives. Riley was glad he had made the nest big enough for him, not really taking Ivory's size into account. He was bigger than her so in a large nest there was room for them both. He tried to curl up on one end and not touch her too much. Riley just hoped this would help her sleep peacefully this time.

156919 Riley nodded, content that Ivory was in the nest. He noted the wince and frowned, concern causing his whiskers to twitch. Once she had curled up, Riley leaped onto one of the rocks above his den and looked around. Breathing deep the still, dusk air. The sun was practically gone now, and he could begin to see a few stars attempting to wink at him before the dark of night fully set in. Everything seemed quiet, and Riley noted that there didn't seem to be anything dangerous nearby. He breathed a sigh of relief and took another deep breath. This time he smelled Ivory down below him. Curious, he glanced down at her and noted she was still shivering madly. Riley frowned, whiskers twitching again. He jumped quietly from his perch, "Are you alright?" He asked quietly, unsure of what to do. He'd tried to make the nest deep to help block out the wind and chill. Maybe he hadn't done a good enough job. Or was it her injury causing a fever? Riley took a step towards the nest and stared down at Ivory curled up. He didn't even know if she was awake.

156919 Riley nodded and guided her over to the nest. He had lined it with thick moss and bird feathers. "It is out of the wind..." He meowed, repeating himself at first before he realized it and closed his mouth and looked away. He shuffled his paws on the ground, the dirt flicking to the side as his claws dug into it slightly. "I will remain nearby and keep watch." He meowed quickly, before giving his chest a lick to help himself relax. Riley wasn't really sure how to behave around Ivory now that they were past the initial stage of violence and fear. He was going to make sure she climbed into the nest before he did anything else, however.

156919 Riley sighed and nudged Ivory with his foot, gently at first but when she still wouldn't budge he used a bit more force. "Come along, I made a place for you to sleep outside, sheltered from the wind." He began to contemplate dragging her by the extra fur on the back of her neck, but knew that would scare Ivory and cause more problems than he needed. Instead he kept nudging the she-cat with his paw in the direction he wanted her to go. "Don't make me carry you." Riley meowed a little earnestly.

156919 Riley finished taking the feathers over to the den and frowned when he saw Ivory stubbornly staying in place, shivering. He hurried a bit to grab the ball of moss. If she wouldn't at least take shelter inside, next to the rock itself would be warmer and out of the wind. Riley sighed and pushed the moss into what he hoped was an appropriately sized nest for Ivory outside of his den. As a finishing touch he gently placed some of the feathers for extra softness, thinking about her soreness. When he was satisfied, Riley padded over to Ivory, "Wake up." He meowed simply, resisting the temptation to nudge her with his paw.

156919 "It's only going to get colder." Riley meowed, his voice growing a little stern. He noticed that she turned all the way around, but didn't know why. "It'll block the wind as well. And you won't be trapped, you can leave anytime you want once you get a full night's rest." He flattened his ears slightly, but rose them and turned to pad back to his den with the bundle of feathers. In the corner of his eye he spotted the bundle of fresh moss that Ruby had collected before she had disappeared.

156919 Riley frowned as she winced. "I'm sorry," He choked out, the words catching in his throat. He wasn't used to saying them to anyone really, he had too much pride. "Wouldn't you be more comfortable in a nest?" He asked, flicking his tail toward his den. "You can use these bird feathers," He mewed, and began grabbing a few into his mouth.

156919 Riley frowned slightly and looked away, he hadn't meant to scare her. After a few moments he heard her eating the bird and relaxed, relieved that she was finally eating something substantial. He turned back to see half the bird gone. Riley sat back down and wrapped his tail around his paws, "Does it still hurt badly?" He asked gently, referencing Ivory's tumble out of the tree earlier that day.

156919 Riley rose to his paws and took a step towards Ivory, "Enough." He meowed gently, "I understand. Thank you." He turned to look away quickly, feeling a bit awkward. Then he noticed the bird laying next to them and could feel her gazing at it, but remaining frozen. Riley smiled and flicked this tail at her, "Eat, I caught that for you after all." He teased, though his face appeared to remain grumpy. He caught one of the bird's wings with a quick claw and pulled it close enough for Ivory to take a bite from.

156919 Riley nodded slightly and stared off into the distance, away from Ivory. He stiffened lightly at the sudden contact, taken a little aback, but relaxed after a moment. He was a bit shocked that she'd come this close to him, he didn't see himself as a safe cat to be around. Riley wasn't about to complain though, she had very soft fur and her touch was gentle. "Maybe." He meowed and shrugged, glancing at Ivory feeling a little self conscious.

156919 Riley shook his head, "I don't think so. They're still a part of you no matter where you are. They're the reason you're here now." He meowed a little solemnly as he though of his father. He wrapped his tail around his paws and stared ahead, "I miss my father, but I make it up to him by living as best as I can. And keeping tabs on my sisters who still live with the twolegs." Riley looked up and frowned, "But, it's yours. I'm not saying you have to take it off if you don't want to."

156919 Riley stared down at his paws, as he listened. He sadly remembered his own father luring away a dog and dying to save him. He looked back up at Ivory when she mentioned him though, feeling a stone in his belly out of guilt. "I'm not brave. Just an angry, bitter cat." He sighed, letting some of his gruff exterior melt away a bit and flicked his tail. "We have something in common though, my father died doing the same thing." Riley let out a long sigh and glanced at Ivory, staring at her own collar. "Why do you still wear it?"

156919 ((Oops. :x ))

Riley spotted the collar but didn't comment and tried not to stare. He wasn't surprised to find out that Ivory was a kittypet. He simply nodded back and thought of his sisters and mother back at Twoleg-Place. He hadn't gone to see them in about a week. "What happened?" Riley asked curiously, and pushed the bird even closer, noting that she still hadn't taken a bite of it.

156919 Riley flicked an ear and watched Ruby rush off. He felt more awkward now than before and he shot a glance at Ivory as she spoke. The tom nodded, and pushed the bird toward the white cat, "No?" He asked curiously, and gestured at the bird for her to take a bite, only willing to eat once he was satisfied Ivory had, had enough to eat. Riley did his best to look calm and make slow deliberate motions so that he didn't startle her.

156919 Velvet laughed and shook her head, "No. I ate earlier." She was amused by their reaction, most young cats she had come across were eager to show off their various abilities. The she-cat purred slightly, pleased, "And don't you worry about me," Velvet smiled and stretched, "I'm well capable of chasing down a rabbit or two."

156919 ((Sorry for the wait.))

Velvet nodded and smiled at the two young cats. She wrapped her tail around her paws and thought for a moment. Normally she was aloof around strangers, but Velvet had a definite weakness when it came to kits and younger cats. Perhaps it was because she knew soon she'd be an older sister and would have to look out for her future siblings. Her ear flicked once as she heard a distant noise. Velvet sniffed the air and looked in the direction of the sound. Rabbit drifted to her, which wasn't unusual, but it smelled stronger than normal. She smirked slightly and looked back at Honey and Ebony. "Want to show me what you two are made of?" Velvet meowed and pointed in the direction of rabbit with her tail.

156919 Velvet nodded and stretched, "It is a beautiful place, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else." She meowed, a little solemnly. Currently she stayed with her mother along one of the edges of the moor, in a copse of trees. She'd promised her mother she'd help until she and the new kits would be safe. Oh, how Velvet missed the open moor and the wind in her fur and sleeping under the stars. Even the small cluster of trees was too oppressive to Velvet. She smiled down at Ebony and Honey, "I live just over this hill by the small clump of trees on the moor's edge. I know you probably won't ever need it, but if you find yourself in any sort of trouble at all you can come looking for me."

156919 Velvet laughed, "Some are not so lucky." She meowed and dipped her head to the young cats. "I meant to only see that you were okay on your own." She shook out her fur slightly, and rose back to her paws. "What do you usually do out here?" Velvet asked, looking up around the open moor, inhaling the strong scent of grass and rabbit.

156919 "I'm Velvet," the large she-cat meowed simply in response, coming out of her thoughts to listen to the younger cats. Velvet wrapped her tail around her paws and flicked an ear, "I guess the both of you know how to hunt well enough when she disappears for a while?"

156919 "Your sister?" Velvet asked curiously. "Are the three of you not the same age?" She sat down and peered at the younger cats gently, remembering her own sibling. She hadn't seen her sister in moons, but Velvet remembered that soon she'd have several younger siblings she'd have to look out for.
