Finished! I give this book 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this book! Especially in the current political climate, some of the book seemed more satirical than straight fiction - life imitating art and all that. The main character Hayley is a total badass and is tasked with single-handedly finding a Russian KGB mole buried deep in the White House Administration. I loved her interactions with the other agents, and her take no prisoners style of dealing with any liars or cheats. Great story. I want to thank the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for giving me an e-copy of this book, in return for an honest review.

I'd like to join please. 2-3 books/week

I kind of like this "inside the White House" scenario although like you politics is not my cup of tea.

I just started it and am really loving it.

Now we're getting to it. This part of the story seems to tie more closely back to book #1 of this series with the lighthouse and etc.

I'm not sure I'll finish this today. It might have to go into next week or this weekend.

I did read through Ch 18 so I'll comment on that. At first it was hard for me to get the flow of the book, but now I understand we are talking about two different time periods - one where Louie is a 16 year old young adult and Noemi is his little niece who's 2 years old; and another where Louie is older, and Noemi is in her late 30s.

There certainly is a log going on in both time frames.

From the earlier time frame, who is robbing those graves, what did Louie's mom hit with her car, who left his mom (other than his dad), what ever happened to Jean-Luc...

From the latter time frame, did Roddy commit suicide or was it murder/manslaughter?

It was sad but interesting to read about the rise in suicide rates in Native Americans and Alaskan Indigenous peoples is higher than other ethnic groups, and that it happens most among men between the ages of 25-40. I guess that's when people think they've given the "outside world" a shot, and it didn't pan out.

But this doesn't appear to fit Roddy at all. Is there something more sinister following Noemi??? (hide spoiler)]
