I read the book in 2018 and gave it 5 stars. I agree: Adult Fantasy starring a young adult protagonist.

not sure which one I'll go with next

16548 Finished The Traitor Baru Cormorant. Game of Thrones is an obvious influence. Ends with a big "To be continued......"

Just started Dark Orbit. I am really liking it so far!
16548 I saw Dark Orbit at the library today so I checked it out and began reading. I'm liking it so far :)

I was in the mood for a gentle Russian fantasy so I've begun reading Chasing Ravens. Liking it so far!

16548 I would be interested in Deverry Series Read. I would not be interested in participating in a Malazan Series read(sorry).
16548 I read this 2 years ago. McKillip's novels are fantastic!
16548 I read this last February. I like Robert Charles Wilson's writing. This was not his best one. (But even "not his best one" is better than most science fiction being written today!)

16548 Finished Bathing the Lion -- very surreal, very different from what I usually read (and I usually read sf/f!)

Now reading: The Handmaid's Tale

Agree with you Christine on Annihilation. I gave it 1 star even though I finished it. I really liked The Last Policeman, so Enjoy!

I've finished The Lies of Locke Lamora. I gave it 5 stars, really 4.5 stars. I'll read the sequel sometime.

I'm thinking about starting Heart of Iron. I've had this book here for awhile. Now that I know better who the Decembrists were in *real life*, I can appreciate an alternate history where they won their confrontation. (In real life, the "Decembrists" wound up in Siberia.)

16548 I've been reading The Lies of Locke Lamora during the month of November. I shall finish soon.

16548 Getting ready to begin one of:
The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton Dreams Underfoot by Charles de Lint The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (Fairyland, #1) by Catherynne M. Valente

16548 I'm going to be contrarian and say that I didn't care for this novel. There was a lot of description of reactions to events, without ever really telling the reader about the events that the characters were reacting to. Maybe there is enough information embedded in the novel to clue in some readers about the events; not enough information for ME to figure out what is going on. I've decided not to continue with the trilogy.

LOL We both nominated the same book for Fantasy. Great minds think alike :0)

16548 For Fantasy I'll nominate: The Bell at Sealey Head by Patricia A. McKillip
Mythopoeic Fantasy Award Nominee for Adult Literature (2009)

For Science Fiction, I'll nominate: The Last Policeman by Ben H. Winters. It's the first book of a trilogy set in a world wherein a large comet is heading for Earth. All 3 books of the trilogy are in print.

16548 Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time series --- poor guy literally died before finishing the series) and George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones fame --- book #3 of series -- wait 5 years -- book #4 of series -- wait SIX years -- book #5 of series (2011) --- wait ???? and book #6 will appear ................)

Hope y'all don't mind me jumping in here!
