━×] des is probably someone that would make Charles Darwin proud, or roll about in his grave. She's always been one to adapt to her situation, a dynamic collaboration of limbs. Whatever is needed, she can become. Her utility almost seems to have no end, and whatever she doesn't know that could affect her status and security, she finds a way to learn about. It's not so much that she wants to be of use for others. No, she's far too selfish to be thinking of other people. It's just that with being useful comes a security that is hard to come by. It's shaky, at best, but it usually lasts long enough for her to foresee a change. And then she evolves into someone else again. This personality of hers, the brave woman of the resistance, is merely an evolution.
She's a coward. There is no courage in her, and she feels as though people can see through this. There are days when she feels like she's transparent, feels like people can see right past each new mask she puts on. The brave face she pulls crumbles behind closed doors, and she becomes frantic. Her emotions, at best, are a jumble of wires. It is only through an intense need to survive, to be safe, that she can even put on the charades she does. And it feels like everyday is a test, but she's made it this far. It's not within her to give up.
Being selfish is a human tendency, but Des may take the cake. She knows that some of her decisions may not be as selfless like her fellow leaders, but she can't bring herself to really stop. It's not something that can fade with time, or wear away. She can train herself to seem like a person of the people, but in reality, she's just trying to get by on her own. She wants to keep what is hers as just that, keep things to herself. Sometimes information, sometimes objects, sometimes people. But is she truly wrong in thinking that she should keep some things to herself? Is she truly at fault for being human?

━×] abandonment is nothing rare, but it certainly isn't common. It doesn't just happen to people on command, either. It just is. Sometimes it is perceived or it is actual, and for Desdemona, it was something real. She didn't dream up her parents walking her down the road, and then suddenly disappearing. She didn't dream up walking back home by herself, in the dark coldness of winter, to an empty house. But she will always say that she imagined it, because it makes it less real in her mind. That her parents would just dump her out in the middle of nowhere to enjoy a life without her. It would have meant that they didn't need her, or want her. But they'd waited seven years to do it, which perhaps made it worse. Like those seven years had simply been a trail period that she had failed.![]()
At seven years old, she walked herself to an orphanage. Newly "liberated" from her parents, she sought help in the form of foster care system. A system with a continually bad reputation, but she had little understanding of that. Her situation may have been easier for an adult to understand than for her. She was housed at St. Jude's Orphanage until she was adopted by a family in a rural area. But this was more a business transaction than it was an adoption. They were looking for farm hands, not children to love. And that was what Des became.
She worked for the Milligans for ten years, until they felt she wasn't as useful. Or rather, until their son took a liking to her. He was a little psychopath in the making, torturing the younger children and the animals. The only son, he was held at the highest pedestal, the boy they had big plans for. He was built a truck, the kind they named him after from the old days. Ford, and every part of him seemed to fit the name. But he had a particular interest in watching Des squirm and scream. She'd grown accustomed to his antics, but he had only recently come to enjoy her reactions.
What she covered up, he unearthed and made fresh. He renewed the fear of being disposed with every chance he was given. He watched her like a hawk, threatening to say that she was far less of use than she had made herself out to be. And while she did craft herself into the perfect help, she was faltering with him around. And so, just shy of eighteen, they sent her back to the heart of the city. They left her with several hundred dollars, enrolled her in her final year of schooling, and washed their hands of her.
The money went away quickly, about as quickly as she grew hungry. Her money management skills had yet to take root for anything, and her education was failing her. The little she did know barely kept her at the same pace with her peers. The pressures of finding further work was only another stesser. She forewent a home for a bench, to save money in one aspect. In most cases, she would sneak into the backrooms of unsuspecting businesses to rest. Only a couple of hours to close her eyes before she walked the streets.
There is money to be had in selling yourself. Essentially, she did the same for ten years. She sold herself in exchange for a bed, warm food, and the illusion of family documented on paper. So what was so different about doing it now? It was just another means of survival, of getting to see the next day. She molded herself into an unfeeling, empty shell to endure nights of pleasing others. She became everything that they wanted from her, and she was able to continue on for another day.
She left school shortly after being left in the heart of the city. She thought that the book smarts that all the other children were getting was utterly useless in this society. In the world that she had come to know, Des found no use for algorithms or past rulers of countries.
It was some time after her twentieth birthday that the resistance found her. Her ability to mold herself into whatever she felt was needed was what caught their attention. She was a pure, malleable substance to them, one that could be harnessed. What they must have missed was that she had simply put on another face for them, and now they're her key to survival.

It was supposed to be a period >.<I haven't fully decided what side he'd see as more powerful, but I think he'd fluctuate with the power. Or I'll just let it depend on how things go in roleplay.
That makes sense?Yeah, I can see it working out that way.
Yeah, he kinda would be the real power in the gang. His end goal is basically, at this point, power. Like, I can see him being power-hungry. Which would then make sense for him to be a bit of a sadist, but not actively involved in any sort of violence. Does that make sense?

But he likely wouldn't get violent unless it was absolutely necessary, so maybe he had someone do the beatings on Phi for him? He might also be a bit of a sadist, but I'm not too sure. I kinda wanted him to be fairly ambitious, and being part of the Luscari family is only a means to an end for him.
If her mother was part of a crime family, would she still have to have connections with them or no? Because I feel like, depending on the family, once you're in, you're in and they sort of stick with you.I was thinking he'd be sort of neutral, so maybe it's just for whichever side happens to find it in that moment? And like, whatever they do with the information they learn is their business.
I wouldn't say they're intimate, because I wanted him to have a fairly strong moral compass, and him being intimate with her would be like taking advantage of her dependency on him.
I'm gonna ghosting for the time being, as I have three essays to write.
That makes sense. I was kinda thinking he'd be using his home as a safe house of sorts. I'm not sure which side it should be for, if any at all, yet.
Either someone that knew him before the amnesia, like someone he might have terrorized, or someone who kinda just wants to help.
Thought I replied to this >.>I kinda like the second gif.
As for like, their relationship, I'm pretty sure it's be a dependent one. Since one is sane and the other is not.
