One good thing about a blackout...I managed to complete 2 of my reading goals for the week before 7 pm Monday!
So I am actually about 70% through this book at the moment and didn't think about commenting on here until today. Sorry about that! Let me know if you're reading this one, how far you are, what you think, etc.
Favorite Character:Daeny. I adore seeing her get stronger and become the leader she needs to be.
Twist you didn't see coming?
The thing with The Hand and his men vs. Jaime Lannister. OHMYGRAVY
Love/Hate Relationship:
Tyrion Lannister - I actually even like his arrogance and how he admits to himself that his mouth is what keeps getting him in trouble. His connection to his family and the attitude they were raised with perturbs me greatly.
Favorite Characters? Twist you Didn't see coming? Love/Hate relationship? Leave it all here for us to see!
Oooh yeah I'm further now and Littlefinger is definitely one of my least favorite characters....though I despise Cersei.
This section added a bit of intrigue to the story for us. We have murder, we have detective work, we have fat kids in tiny armor being helped by a group of people who would have fallen apart and been useless bullies were it not for Jon Snow...we have accusations and a tournament. A King's Bastard son and truths no one saw coming. SO tell me what were your favorite and least favorite scenes? Which characters are you liking more (or liking less?)
I hope you're enjoying this read as much as I am!
This is where we'll talk about the 3rd week of reads. In the MMP the page numbers for this week are 202-304.
Cherrie wrote: "I've ordered the first 2 books so hopefully they'll turn up soon so I can catch up and join in :)"YAY! I'm excited to see how you like them :D
So I just finished up this section of the book and a LOT of things happened! Here are my top thoughts from pages 109-2021) WHAT? THE WHAT? HE DID WHAT? (that was every chapter...seriously...but the chapter where Joffry attacks Arya and all that stuff goes down, that chapter made me want to reach in the book and shake the princeling into submission.)
2) The description of Dragon's and how their bones and teeth look/what they're made of is AMAZING...it was a very short piece of a short chapter, but that felt very interesting and important and has stuck with me (so far)
3) BRAN! BRAN BRAN BRAN - I think he has a third eye type thing going on now...BRAN!!!! Bran and Birds and Summer. WOOHOO!
4) I still don't like the Lannisters or Catelyn Stark...but I like Catelyn and Tyrion slightly more.
5) Jon Snow better get it together because he's about to be in hot water at a cold wall.
This is where we will be discussing the reading for pages 100-200(ish). If you, like me, are reading in the MMP version of the book and prefer to end at a chapter, the page numbers are actually 109-202 (in my copy anyway). I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts and rants about this section. Happy Reading!
I just finished the first 100 pages! Here are a few of my thoughts so far:1) I am really enjoying George R. R. Martin's writing style. I have been pleasantly surprised at how smoothly this book reads and how easily I am keeping up with the different story lines.
2) I have been warned A LOT about how harsh Martin is with his characters. I was told not to get attached to ANYONE or ANYTHING...they weren't lying. Good Grief! (Bran's part just sliced at me!)
3) What in the world is with the incestuous relationships? I get that we're supposed to be keeping bloodlines pure but COME ON...consistent in breeding causes big health issues. How is that not a problem?
4) Dire Wolves are smart and BIG and awesome. I want one.
So what are your thoughts and emotions as we come to the end of week one? Have you chosen a favorite character? A favorite wolf? A LEAST FAVORITE character (how can you choose??)? Let us know!
Cherrie wrote: "I wish I could join in with this but I don't own any of the books and I couldn't find them in my tiny local library :( If I do manage to find them I'll try to catch up :)"I hope you find them soon! :D If not, we'll find something else to read with you later on!
TODAY'S THE DAY! This week we're reading the first 100(ish) pages of GoT! I've really been looking forward to this and can't wait to hear what you all think! Remember to tell us all about your thoughts and feels this week. Ready...Set...GO!
ambie wrote: "I would join y'all but I don't think I'm in the right place right now for such a long and intense book. Y'all have fun though."We understand! But if you find yourself wanting to join in later, don't hesitate!
And don't worry, I'm planning on having many more group reads!
