What did everyone think of Felicia's book? Did you do the exercises?

Yeah it definitely felt like a cautionary tale but it also felt like a more realistic reaction to what would happen if humans made that kind of discovery. Usually, we see some kind of semi-utopian, "unite the world" response when humans discover aliens or other world changing phenomena. Maybe I'm a cynic, but the various government bickering over who gets to militarize it seems more realistic.

I just started the fourth book in the Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman,
The Lost Plot

So has anyone else finished the book already? What'd everyone think? I finished it a couple weeks ago but figured I'd give people some more time to finish. The audiobook was real short like 8.5 hours.
I really liked the interview format of the book, it really translated to audio well. The story was interesting though I'd still like to know who exactly Interviewer was lol. Speaking of which, was it me or did it feel like none of the characters were "good people"?

I finished as well. I agree, the audiobook was great.

I started the audiobook at work today. I’m already about halfway through. Finish tomorrow??? 😮

Completed the book? Feel free to discuss spoilers here!

General chat and hype about our August/September read

For those interested/keeping track, Poppy War is the S&L pick for this month

Sorry, I can't be of any help. I'm still relatively new to comics.....I only know of the Runaways from hearing them talk about it on The Wednesday Club. I just recently finished the Jen Soska Black Widow run and am reading the new Vox Machina series.
Also currently reading the new Star Wars book, Thrawn: Treason

I just realized I never introduced myself! lol
My name is Scott. I've been a member of Team Hooman since the early days of Felicia's streams. I'm also a member of the Sword & Laser book club, which I found through G&S. I'm known as wildbronco38 in Twitch and Discord. I have pretty varied reading tastes but it leans toward more SFF.

A place to discuss what other books/comics/graphic novels, etc. we're reading

Honestly, my favorite parts of the book that kept drawing me back in were the food/eating scenes, which is funny because the most recent episode of Writing Excuses was about including food in writing.

Thanks! Yeah, I first heard about it after I read Mary Robinette Kowal's
Ghost Talkers, so it really piqued my interest lol. Plus I've really enjoyed the other books I've read by Cherie.
Rebecca wrote: "To add some scifi to your fantasy options I nominate Sleeping Giants...."I just read the description. That sounds really interesting.
When do we want to vote?

Just to throw up some nominations for next month
Skyward by Brandon Sanderson
The Armored Saint by Myke Cole
Brimstone by Cherie Priest
Romanov by Nadine Brandes
Yeah, I think Felicia's new book is a given for October
For Nov./Dec. themes. Family/Holidays? Historical? 2019 award winners/Best of 2019?

Are we going to have another pick?

I just finished it. It was a slow read for me and struggled to grab me. It wasn't until the truth of her background was revealed that I really got into it. But, once it picked up, I really enjoyed it.

Just a heads up, for anyone interested, the most recent episode of Sword and Laser (Episode 355) is an interview with Rebecca Roanhorse.

Any thoughts on the next pick?

I'm slowly making my way through it. Haven't had much time to read it. I'm only about a quarter through.
