There's lots of "big" books I want to read: the K Atkinson, D Tartt, Flamethrowers--there's a ton of them. But lately I require a smaller book and a more uncomplicated trail.
Oh, yes! Hi Lisa. I pretty much settled--I think-- on The UnAmericans - Mollie Antopol, recommended by LaurenB. I can't read anything after finishing Just Kids. It took me ages to get to it, but now I'm still bathing in the glow of Patti Smith and living at the Chelsea Hotel and I'm resistant to leaving.

I'm going to try and send a group email through Goodreads.
My house is available. I do recall, however, that Lisa and someone else favored Western MA for traveling convenience. We could explore that, and those who want to come via Boston can still come to my house and we could drive together. Perhaps I should move this discussion to a group Facebook message. I also want to say that if any of our old RV pals have been lurking and are pining to join us, just email or message one of us. There is no intention to exclude anyone specifically, just to have a small warm get together. Look for a FB message later tonight or tomorrow. If you don't get one by tomorrow (tues) night, let me know.
April, sounds like you have your hands full lately. Hope your surgery isn't too serious and you're feeling ok.
Glad to hear that about Wolf Hall, Miriam. I still wonder what the big deal is, and wonder why I don't get it. And, while I have no problem including other reader friends in our potential get-together, a larger number of people turns it into a party, rather than just hanging out. Perhaps Lisa could weigh in, she's hosted a few of those. At present, I am not really equipped to host a party. Please don't misunderstand me, I love a party and would attend it. I just think it's different than what we've been talking about.

I would be willing to go to Chicago and hang out, shop for books, see your actual faces.
April, hi! I haven't heard of that one. I'll check it out. Having trouble settling in to a new book after a couple of fabulous ones. Thanks for the inadvertent recommendation.Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I'm thankful for you all.
Lisa wrote: "I guess I don't really think of the NYT as buzz. Sad but true."Ha, Lisa. That's partially (or mostly) 'cause you live in NY!
April wrote: "There are so many great books I'm trying to get to before the Tournament of Books which also means I'm trying to second guess what might be in the tournament! Last year they posted the list on Dec...."I always want to participate in reading along with that. I also envy Gayle B her ability to read the awards longlists. I am not really in control of what I read, when I read it--I kind of have to let the books tell me when it's time.
