201489 I have created a readers group on FB!

It's essentially the same as what's over here, just in a different format. Most importantly, it's a closed group, so you can join and no one will know you're in it. No one can see your posts except the people in the group, and no one you're connected with on FB will ever know you're in it. I do know that is important for some people here.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/64834...

Here's the link if you're interested! I just went through a brutal Q&A, lol.

Trio, Barb:

YAY!! Oh, I'm so relieved to hear that. I was hoping Jack would find forgiveness from the readers. He really went through paralyzing torture of his own (Not taking away from Ethan's pain at all!), and I wrote them specifically to be rock solid and committed to each other, 110%, here. :)

(A double sleeping bag for sure - one of those big, wide ones that you zip together and make it bigger. They each would have gotten one. Only makes sense to zip them together, right! ;) And... after a few weeks living with the same people... I don't think they even cared anymore. But can you imagine anyone on the periscope on Honolulu??? :D "Uh, sir, contact on the beach... Sir, never mind...)

Nice! Thank you Jerry! I'll definitely look that up.

LOL. Poor Sasha. :)

I remember when you shared your guys' love story. I always felt connected to you because of that, and because it's similar history for us. :)

(And, your story of throwing out his ugly clothes and blaming it on the washing machine is one of my all-time favorite gay couple stories.)

201489 Thank you Melissa!! :)

Research is my crack. This one was some seriously heavy and intense research, though. I was reading doctoral thesis on Arctic ocean currents and ice floes, lol.

I'm *really* happy to see the equal love for all three couples. I was always afraid that people would skim through the others to get back to Jack and Ethan, but I'm loving seeing the happiness and warmth given to all three.

**coming back to your mole comments later. ;)

Reversed, though. My husband isn't gay. He's actually demi... which is where Jack came from. :)

Funny you bring up blind kisses, Jerry... :D

My husband's first kiss to me went like this:

Him: *Nervous glances. Pacing. Fretting*

Him: I've just got to try something... *lunges & kisses*

*Earth fades away, angels sing, clouds part, heaven opens up*

Me: *stunned*

Him: ...oh fuck...

We were married 9 months later. :)

Thank you, Jerry! That is exactly how I plotted the novel, and exactly what those scenes were for. I sort of feel like my curtain has been pulled back, and you can see my sticky notes and yarn tying it all together, lol.

I actually had to cut a LOT out of EOME because it was getting too long (and then I wrote 180K for EW, so go fig) and one of the scenes suggested for cutting by my editor was the hospital scene in the beginning. I said no, no, that has to stay in. There's subtle world building there. And, then later, finding Noah, and the autopsy. Could that be cut, because he's already dead. No, no. That was for readers to hopefully build in their mind that cloning is possible, it's here, and it's happening around them.

(A trip overseas with Ethan and Jack to an international summit was cut, a scene of them at Rowley training center, and a longer press scene of Jack in the Press Room.)

However the reader chose to interpret the cloning parts of the plot is entirely up to them. Regarding the speed of Leslie's development, here's an article that talks about current research into accelerated cell growth using IPS stem cells. It is possible to accelerate the growth of cells. Some researchers are using viruses, and others are using modified cancer cells to accelerate cellular growth. http://www.healthline.com/health-news...

I'm NOT saying that you must believe 100% of everything that I put into the story, or that I am totally right and if you don't agree with me, you suck. :) Not at all. I definitely stretched the science to make it work. But I didn't make it up (which is what Science Fiction is), and most of it is based on real, actual science. It's based on way more science than I thought I would find, going in to my research.

But, in terms of the structure of the plot and the writing, Jerry, you nailed it. That was exactly what I was trying to convey. :)

I will say this: if you're sick of clones, then you have nothing to fear in EW.

I bring you brand new terrors and heart attacks. lol. ;)

A flurry of laws passed after Dolly, and fears of genetic engineering. Cloning and genetics opens the doors to some wild possibilities. Laws are being debated today about the future of cloning for medical research, and lab-grown human tissues. For some really wild reading, check out the current work being done on human organs grown inside pigs, and the fears that human-pig genomes will cross (somehow) and create a chimera-like, possibly human-esque(?) new creature. Now *that's* sci fi!! :D

201489 Ohh, that sci-fi label.

The book is not sci-fi. I did not write it that way. It's not even futuristic. I remember having to talk down my new editor from wanting all sorts of gadgets in the third book, because "it's futuristic, right?"

No. It's roughly ten-to-fifteen years in the future. Ten years ago, were we all using cell phones? Yep. Taking selfies? Yep. Texting? Yep. :) "Futuristic" imagines a new world in the future, with completely unique technology and gizmos. (Think The Minority Report) I wanted this story grounded in the real world.

Re, cloning. Here is a segment of my Author's Notes at the back of Enemy Within.

"The cloning process I based Leslie Spiers’s resurrection off of is rooted in the science of induced pluripotent stem (IPS) cells, pioneered by Dr. Yamanaka. Dr. Yamanaka was awarded the Nobel prize for this work in 2012. IPS cells can be made from donated cells and DNA from the host (in this case, fictional Leslie Spiers), and then directed to grow as needed. Current research has centered on growing retinal cells out of skin stem cells for patients with macular degeneration."

Cloning is possible, and in Asia, human cloning experiments are already underway. Human body parts are cloned and grown today around the world. It is *rare*, but it does happen.

And, for $40,000, you can clone your pet in Korea and have an exact duplicate of your beloved Fluffy. :)
