Congratulations to those of you who finished the challenge!! I had a ton of fun with you this year, I really enjoyed seeing everyone's lists and getting to know everyone better. Happy New Year, and hopefully we'll all be successful on the 2011 Challenge!
#89 Out of My Mind-Sharon M. DraperVery interesting YA book told from the point of view of an 11 year old girl with cerebral palsy who cannot speak or walk, but is extremely intelligent. She loves words...
"Piles and piles of words I learned to read. Little words, like fish and dish and swish. I like rhyming words- they're easy to remember. It's like a "buy one, get the rest free" sale at the mall."
I have to love a book that says things like that!
#87 Lottery-Patricia WoodThis was a really good book. If you've read "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" and enjoyed it, I'd definitely recommend this one.
To quote my son, oh man! that's so hard...let's see...Best Holocaust Book:
"The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak -- This was excellent. I had a hard time getting into the first couple chapters, but after that I was hooked. I read a few Holocaust books this year, and this one was the best written.
Best Historical Fiction:
"Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen -- Loved this book. I really enjoyed the insight into traveling circuses, I'd never read anything about them before.
Best YA:
"Mockingjay" by Suzanne Collins -- Isn't it obvious? LOL
Best drama:
"Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger -- The plotline factor was so impressive. I cannot imagine how she kept it straight while she was writing.
Best Non-Fiction:
"My Life in France" by Julia Child -- I don't read a lot of memoirs, but I loved this. Julia Child was a very cool woman, and I didn't know anything about her before this book.
I didn't finish the series. I know its popular, but you aren't really missing much. There's way better YA/fantasy out there
