Great idea Werner. I definitely do my part. We have a vacation house in the mountains and when we are up for the week, I always go and buy at least one book. Of course, my other motive is that they hire me when I retire
If you are friends with someone, you can get a daily email of updates from your friends (in terms of adding books to shelves, their ratings and if they review).
I really loved Byzantium as well --- it is similar to the Iron Crusades series which I also liked. It is more historical fiction than fantasy.
The Albion trilogy is the Kindle Deal of the Day -- 1.99 with narration added also 1.99. This is for May 6, 2015.Song of Albion is my favorite Lawhead trilogy --- try it today!
I was just looking for other author recommendations. I think that Lawhead is pretty unique --- especially as a Christian author of fantasy genre books. It seems that many of us have read most of his books, so we might we looking for something new to try.
I can start it off....I also really like Guy Gavriel Kay. He is similar to Lawhead in that his books cross genres. The book The Lions of Al-Rassan is a particular favorite of mine. It is set in a fantasy world that historically based on medieval Spain. I had heard that it is a re-telling of legend of El Cid, but I don't know that story.
Yes -- I think that he was mostly recovered by the time that he started Bright Empires. I've only read the first book of Bright Empires and agree with Werner as well. I still found it enjoyable, but I didn't feel that it was an immersive experience like his other books. Maybe that is due to the time travel element. Now that he's finishing up, has anyone heard what's up next for him?
No one had mentioned it, but the Celtic Crusades trilogy is also good. I also enjoyed the Robin Hood trilogy.I haven't read Patrick, but I did enjoy Byzantium as well.
I have read Talisen twice (once a long time ago) and more recently with the group. I listened to Merlin --- but I think the reader/content didn't work in the audio format for me. :-(
I think I'm going to go back and re-read the first one soon......so I can work my way though the series this year. I recall the first one was a pretty quick read.
If you buy the Kindle book, then you can get the audio for additional .99Here is the link Lawhead Kindle Deal
I'm also assuming that it is something e-book-ish. I hope that it's not just a deal on the first one because that was actually the first book that I bought on my Kindle :-D
I saw on Facebook that Lawhead was going to post something on March 23 --- maybe a "deal" on the books in Bright Empire.
Welcome Tim!!!We are pretty quiet group that manages a group read about once every 2-3 years. The Song of Albion trilogy was one of my favorites!!! I just listened to Merlin on audio a couple of months ago. To be honest, I didn't enjoy it as much as others I've read. I think that one reason is that I don't always do well listening to fantasy books.
I also read The Skin Map, but haven't continued with Bright Empires because I generally prefer to read series after they are all published :-). The memory isn't as good as it used to be :-)
Welcome to the group Dianne. I also loved the Endless Knot trilogy. I just listened to Merlin on audio, but I'm not sure I really enjoyed it as much. I will probably just try to read the other ones.We are a pretty quiet group, but feel free to start any discussions. We usually manage a group read every year or two ;-)
I have only read The Skin Map of the Bright Empires series so this may not be completely valid. The Song of Albion trilogy is my favorite series by Lawhead and I don't think that Bright Empires will usurp it's place :-DI agree with Werner --- I think that by focusing on one main character, the work seems a bit deeper. I also love all the celtic mythology. I am also a bit biased in that I don't really like long series --- getting me to read 3 books is a big accomplishment so 5 is really starting to ask too much ;-)
