I was surprised too. I expected to be able to see the selection of books via itunes as well. Interesting.
So I was really looking forward to reading A Kiss to Killby Nina Bruhns that was released today. Alas, it wasn't released in Kindle format today. A quick check at inkmesh.com didn't show it being available in any other eformat either. I wanted to see if it was released for the iPad today but I can't tell because there is no way to see what books area available in the iBookstore except from an iPad. If you are an iPad owner, can you tell me if this book is available? Thanks!!!!
So iTunes prompted me today to download the latest version. As I was upgrading I thought "GREAT, I can check out the book selection for the iPad." I mean really, would you purchase a device without having an inkling about what the book selection would be like? Well, I wouldn't. One of the reasons that I switched from the various readers on my iPod Touch was because the selection of books for the Kindle was significantly larger. But alas, I digress. So once iTunes installs I find that I can't browse books in the iBookstore (note that Apple does NOT own the url ibookstore.com). Books can only be browsed via the application. The iBooks application is ONLY available for the iPad. It isn't available for the iPhone or iPod Touch. Am I the only one who finds this crazy? What is Apple trying to hide? (And in case anyone thinks I have anything against Apple, I don't...I love my iPod!)
Okay. I will admit up front that I am a Kindle owner and proud of it. I also occasionally read books on my iPod Touch and have 4 different reader programs installed. But I'm also a technology freak and have a little bit of technology envy. I was surprised when I came to Goodreads to see what avid readers were saying about reading on their iPad and I couldn't find a single discussion dedicated to the new device that was supposed to revolutionize ereading and publishing. So post your comments here!
