32418 Haha it really is. ;) When I read your 2018 goals I was like "wow I really relate ..." lol. Thank you, good luck to you too Heidi!

Wow that's good to hear! I read some more of it today and could hardly put it down. The world-building is very engrossing and I love the characters so far, too.

32418 Yes sounds like we were in a similar slump, Heidi. Same, I think I used to read about 100 a year (and when I was still in school, too!) and now the thought of doing that is like incomprehensible. But on the other hand I do feel like I skimmed too much and also read a lot of books I didn't end up liking that much. I've been trying to be choosier about what I read and taking my time more, which I think are both good things. But yes I hope we both have a successful reading year in 2018!

32418 Thank you Jenny! :D

32418 Awesome!! I've only read the very beginning but I'm enjoying it so far and look forward to reading the rest.

32418 Thank you, Jenny! :)

32418 Good luck Jenny! And I love the idea of the Book Jar, that is so cute! :D

32418 Hey guys! So my goal this year is pretty small ... I'm just hoping to finish about two books a month, so a total of about 25 for the year. I don't have any very specific goals other than that. I'm just hoping I can become more enthusiastic about reading again since I hardly read any books in 2017. Here's hoping 2018 is a better reading year for me!
Jan 16, 2018 04:47PM

32418 Wow this is a bit late but yeah I only ended up reading 14 books in 2017 and like 3/4 of them were comics/graphic novels. :P Reading for me just became extremely difficult in 2017 for some reason, but I'm hoping this year will be better!
Jan 16, 2018 04:43PM

32418 That's a good goal Heidi and I hope you find the joy of reading again! :)

32418 Hi guys I'm sorry I disappeared for so long (again)!! I hope you are all doing well. :) I was in kind of a huge reading slump in 2017 but I'm gonna try to read more this year.

Recently I finished:

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

which was really intense but very good!

And now I'm finally reading:

Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo

I've heard so many good things about it so I'm excited!

32418 Oooh Ashley that sounds so cool!! I actually also have a Irish historical fantasy thing on the backburner but I haven't worked on it in ages ... I need to get back into it at some point.

All I've been writing lately is fanfiction lol ... I keep taking on these extremely long fanfic projects and then neglecting all my original stuff, whoops.

But maybe I'll try to go back to original work for NaNo? I'm just not sure what I should work on. I've had this idea in the back of my head for a while that's like about a bunch of magical girls fighting like, 60s B-movie monsters haha. It just doesn't really have a plot yet. :P

32418 Thanks Oda!! Nice to see you again as well!

32418 Ooooh cool theme! Another one I can think of is:

Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

32418 Sorry for disappearing again. :P I've still been in a bit of a reading slump, but right now I'm making my way through:

The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

Which is really lovely!

I also am about halfway through:

The City's Son (The Skyscraper Throne, #1) by Tom Pollock

I'd never heard of this one before; I bought it used at the library about a year ago and never got around to reading it until now. But so far, it's really cool! Kind of surreal/bizarre but that's something I personally enjoy, lol.

Uhhh and I also started reading this manga series, My Hero Academia, which is great so far! I've read the first two volumes:

僕のヒーローアカデミア 1 Boku No Hero Academia 1 (My Hero Academia, #1) by Kohei Horikoshi 僕のヒーローアカデミア 2 Boku No Hero Academia 2 (My Hero Academia, #2) by Kohei Horikoshi

And I'm working on the third one. ;)

32418 Hey sorry I've been bad at checking in (again, lol) but recently I finished:

The Foxhole Court (All for the Game, #1) by Nora Sakavic

It was ... pretty good. Had some mixed feelings about it, but I enjoyed it over all. And I was intrigued enough that I might try to read the sequels.

Right now I'm reading:

A Note of Madness (Flynn Laukonen, #1) by Tabitha Suzuma

I like it, although it's a bit ... repetitive?? There isn't much of a plot, but it does a good job capturing what it's like to put a lot of pressure on yourself as an artist, and how anxiety/depression relate to that, etc.

Also today I'm supposed to get in the mail:

The Dark Prophecy (The Trials of Apollo, #2) by Rick Riordan

!!! AAAHHH !!! I'm excited! :D

32418 Thank you, Heidi! And it's ok, it's been a tough year...I'm impressed by anyone who's been managing to get anything done at all, lol. I've also just been a lot busier this year than the past couple years––which is good and all, I just haven't had as much time/energy to read.
Apr 20, 2017 08:07AM

32418 Update: I've bumped my goal down to 25, lol. At this rate I just really don't think I'll be able to reach my initial goal of 50. Reading has just been tough for me lately so I think this goal will be more manageable. :P

Also I'm gonna try to read mostly books that I already own!! I have so many books I've bought that I haven't read yet, so I really need to tackle those.
Apr 17, 2017 09:42AM

32418 lol!!! sometimes I think about doing that, Elora, but usually I try to just come up with a name on the spot, even if I end up changing it later. I'm just always worried if I leave something unnamed I'm gonna forget and leave it in by mistake. :D
