I like the decision to cast Jennifer Lawrence, though I will admit she influenced the way I viewed Katniss. I saw the promo photo when I was about half way through the book. I realized then I thought she was younger, even though the author said she was sixteen. In my mind, the character thinks more like a thirteen year old. Sixteens, especially girls, are very aware of love and crushes. That Katniss and Peeta could be best friends and she not realize they might fall in love is a bit fairytalish. Jennifer Lawrence appears more like the Katniss I think the author had in mind. Thumbs up here. Can't wait to see it!
This is the best explanation I have seen. It makes sense. I have to conclude that the controvesy is more about what Bella chooses than how she is represented on the cover. A good or bad role model, forced to choose between two monsters with little voice of her own? That's a topic for another discussion...
From perezhilton.com:Looks like something in the universe is trying to pull these two together, because producers reportedly want Rachel Weisz for Bond 23…as a VILLAIN!
According to reports, instead of playing a Bond girl, she'd play the "head of the sinister organization" who caused all the trouble in the previous two 007 flicks.
Here's what an insider had to say about it:
"Casting Rachel was going to be a surprise twist as everyone would assume she'd be a Bond girl when really she would play a villain. But the fly in the ointment is that they are now dating."
Dating or not, we think this could be a really good role for Ms. Weisz. We're totally on board!
In other Bond-related news, the rumored weird title of the upcoming 007 movie is Dark of the Moon Red Sky At Night.
Well, at least it's a better title than Ghost Protocol Quantum of Solace.
What do U think about these Bond rumors?
Weisz will be fantastic, I'm sure, but I've never been a fan of Dalton. Connery was the best Bond ever.
Okay you Twilight fanatics out there. Would someone please explain the controversy over the Breaking Dawn cover? Myers has admitted to having played a role in choosing the photo. Why this photo, a couple of chess pieces, one red, one white? What's the big deal?
The trailer is amazing, but then this could just by my opinion of Amanda Seyfried who can hardly do wrong in my eyes. Little hood, otherwise known as Valerie, does not appear to be the innocent and naive girl I remember reading about, but rather appears a siren who loses more in the woods than just her way. The play on good girl falls in love with the bad boy - in this case hot boy by day turns evil werewolf by night, is a theme Hardwick, director of Twilight, has had some experience with. Let's hope Valerie, or rather Seyfried, or even better yet Little Red Riding Hood can make up her mind quicker than poor Bella! Go team Riding Hood!
The second trailer for Little Red Riding Hood was released today (Jan 20).Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight),this adaptation gives the fairy tale a dark, gothic and risqué twist (see The Improper).
The movie is set to be released March 11, 2011.

MGM announced plans to release Bond 23 in November 2012. Though, there is conflicting news. mi6.co.uk suggests that the project was put on hold because of financial uncertainties. This beings said, Timothy Dalton is slated to return and Rachel Weisz is rumored to be the new Bond girl.
Choose your novel and then the person who would best play the role. Be sure to give us the details... why this person?
Yes, I know Batman was a comic book. But it still fits the concept of this group, right? Anyway, Anne Hathaway has landed the new heroine roll in the coming film. I am a fan of Hathaway, but I question the selection. I've always thought a requirement of all characters in batman was to be somewhat gritty, regardless of their moral orientation. I ask myself what kind of woman Batman ultimately needs? Does Hathaway have the necessary steel fibers to keep up with his sense of adventure and his dark moody side? I'm not so sure. She's more of a "girl next door" persona, huggably cute with a hint of needing to be corrupted. Unless this is exactly what the script calls for, I can't help but think that they got this one wrong. Don't get me wrong... I certainly hope that I AM wrong. Hathaway has been on a roll of late, and I would hate to put my admiration of her in jeopardy.
http://www.mahalo.com/hunger-games-movieCollins is also writing the film script. I am going to put this series on my to read list. Thanks for the heads up Kreag.
I also want to mention THE JOY LUCK CLUB. The book and the movie both open a window to the mind and soul of Chinese immigrants and the necessity and struggles of their American born children to balance both the old and new cultures. The book provides additional stories not in the script, but for an adaptation, the movie was very well done. This is one of those read the book first and then enjoy the movie. You will not be disappointed.
The Bourne Identity was one of my favorite books and I so looked forward to the film. How dissapointing it was! The fundamental premise of the novel was Jason Bourne's identity crises and the love of a woman who helped him believe in himself. Both aspects were entirely understanded in the film. Alone, the film would have been good enough. But when compared to the greatness of the novel, the film feel well short.
You are a big-shot Hollywood producer. Which book would you grab off the shelf to make into the next blockbuster?
I just finished this book this weekend and watched the movie as well. I agree with you. There were some amazing additions to make their romance more interesting and believable. Here is the review I posted about the book:
A tale of pure love embracing both the wonders and sadness of life- Sparks' tale is simply complex, leaving the reader feeling the vast emptiness of heart ache and the sweet tones of love's melody. This tale is a measure by which romantics will compare other love stories and likely find them wanting. Sparks ability to share aspects of the heart is second to none.
Some things are better left alone... here is your chance to vent about your favorite book and how much it was messed up! Please, do not hold back. Speak loudly enough and the director just might think twice before turning another jewel into rubbish.
