42787 I'm not reading Fifty Shades of Grey...hehe
Jul 20, 2012 06:28AM

42787 I still think that Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a good one for a modern read- I'm due a re-read myself, and I'd like others to join in :)

42787 Any suggestions welcome for the next book club book? We read this around the time that I moved house and never got round to it myself

I really want to get this back on track :)

42787 I'm sorry, I've neglected this for so long. I hope to re-ignite interest in the bookclub if people are still interested, and general interest in the group. I intend to be a lot more active on here, but I only remembered that I was actually registered here when trawling through some of my old posts on CoS.

Hoping everyone is OK, and that you're all willing to be active again...sorry again, dudes

42787 Which do you prefer to read?

To me it depends on my mood- I really like fiction but I also like reading real life stuff like memoirs, especially about those with eating disorders, it makes me feel less weird. Also I like travel writing like Bill Bryson. At the moment I'm kinda torn between the two, I'm reading Thin by Grace Bowman and Thud! by Terry Pratchett...an unusual mix I know...

So, what are your thoughts?

42787 I've heard of all of them at least, and I've read Huck Finn...I can't see it being a problem for UK readers to find most of them...
Can't speak for other countries though

42787 I thought we should have a seperate thread to suggest new books for the Book Club and discussions on how well it's going, just to keep from straying from the actual book conversations.

For our next book, I suggest The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or To Kill a Mockingbird, which I've been meaning to read it for ages, and it was mentioned in the book club post as one of the original suggestions

Other books suggested were:

A Tale of Two Cities - Charles Dickens.
Little Women - Louisa May Alcott.
Frankenstien - Mary Shelley.
The Hobbit- JRR Tolkein
His Dark Materials- Philip Pullman

However, as was suggested two or more books may be group-read at once, as some members may not wish to read certain books, or they may not be available in certain areas

Happy reading

42787 Well, three people have volunteered for the new mod spot:

Meke

Leah

Sarah

Who are all happy for someone else to do it as well. So, I think it's voting time

Any ideas how?

42787 OK, I'll list it as our first book when I come back from Cardiff, which will be in a week's time

42787 I can start as soon as I find a copy...but I'm away next week, so it'll probably be just over a week...

42787 I'm sure I can find a copy of it somewhere

So if others agree, I'll list it as our "book to read"

I'm thinking we need another Moderator- anyone want to volunteer? It's just in case my net/comp goes down, and also I'm away next week so won't be able to do updates or whatever...
Jan 26, 2011 12:40AM

42787 I only ask because I'm not sure that I do. I read so many books of so many different genres that I can't actually pinpoint a single book as my favourite. Does anyone else have the same experience?

42787 Forget His Dark Materials then

42787 The Hobbit? Must have clicked on the wrong thing, because I'm sure I've not read it...

I'd better go change it...oops

42787 Hehe, I've never read the Hobbit! And I don't think I have a copy of it either- I think it went to the charity shop this morning...not so good!

Um, there's always the His Dark Materials Trilogy- I only suggest it because I know for certain that I have all of the books- or Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?
