44487 Just watched "Cabin in the Woods" last night withmy wife. THere is a lot of Lovecraft in it. Talk about fate, a lot of talk about "the ancient ones" and "gods who once ruled the earth" as well as the sense that unless sacrifices are conducted, the earth cannot escape it's fate! The ending was awesome! Rated R so if you're under 18, gonna be tough to see, but, I just saw so much of Lovecraft in it...

Yeah, I'll have to check yours out too. I enjoy Stephen King and Dean Koontz, but, it's nice to read someone new as well.

44487 What other horror writers do you like?

I also like Jack Ketchum, Richard Laymon, and Edward Lee. Brian Keene as well. How about you?

44487 There is a GREAT HP Lovecraft Documentary called "Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown" all about lovecraft featuring various writers talking about Lovecraft and his work and life. This includes S.T. Joshi, Peter Straub, John Carpenter and Neil Gaiman. It's about an hour and a half, and is very interesting.

Yeah, initially it was just weird for me reading some of his stuff, but the more I read, the more I couldn't help thinking "this guy was WAY ahead for his time."

44487 I have heard of both of those, but am not such a fan that I don't automatically grab them off the shelf at the used book store I go to when I see them.

Please don't tell me he's writing for kids now....

44487 It's an original story. The idea is that Lovecraft had a family, and one particular guy is the last decendent of Lovecraft. There is a secret society around Lovecraft that knows that the things Lovecraft wrote about were real, not fictional. And there is a plot once two relics of Cthulhu are pieced together that would release him from deep under the ocean. Some of the creatures in the film have the look of what you can picture the creatures to look like from the stories. There's some "F" bombs in it, which kind of distract from the story, they could have done it without that. I wouldn't let my nephews watch it for that, but otherwise, good story. Of course, they leave it open for a sequel, which, despite being low budget, I'd buy the movie to see it, as I did this movie.

44487 Just watched the low budget movie "The Last Lovecraft: The Relic of Cthulhu". For low budget, it's not bad. The special effects are not the greatest, but, it's an interesting story and worth the watch. Die hard Lovecraft fans may want to buy it, otherwise, renting it would be fine.

44487 I would love to see that. Guillermo Del Torro was supposed to do that, the movie company was messing around with it then said no. I did send him a letter, through his book publisher, begging him to shop it to another movie studio. Still waiting to hear. I think he'd do good with his version though.

44487 Just read an interesting article about Lovecraft's "estate" status.

44487 Yeah, it's on Borders.com and just look for it under the title above. It retails for $100, but they sell if for $70. Apparently, he wrote a biography in '96, but omitted a bunch of stuff. Approximately 150,000 words. This two volume set completes that and brings the words back.

44487 Just got some 1200 page HP LOvecraft Biography by S.T. Joshi "I am providence: the life and times of HP Lovecraft" in two volumes.

44487 Yeah, I don't know if he's in the public domain or not. I can't remember if he had any kids or not.

44487 I just got a neat leather bound HP Lovecraft book from Barnes and Noble in their bargain book section for $20. If you would like a great book for pretty cheap, check out the bargain book section of your local BN.
