47047 I loved the Harry Potter series. Although it is just a different version of the traditional good versus evil theme, it is a great story. Have you been to Th Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal in Florida? It is amazing. Hogwarts looks just like I picture it would look.

47047 I thought and thought about writing this story and finally did it. I just finished a short story I titled Vampire Truths. I tried to show my view of what it really is like to be a vampire, and it's nothing like the wimpy Twilight version we have today. I had fun writing this. It will be up on Amazon.com tomorrow, but I would like to send you all a free electronic copy if you are interested. The story is only 2000 words.

47047 I just opened my new blog at http://baddreamsgranger.blogspot.com/ where I am featuring my short stories Gladitorium Immortuos and The Deadly Path. Gladitorium Immortuos by Will Granger

Please let me know if your are interested in either story, and I'll be glad to send you a free electronic copy. I think they are fun reads. The Deadly Path by Will Granger
47047 I haven't read that one.
47047 Wow, you all are coming up with some good suggestions. Maybe we can compile a list of favorite non-magical/vampire characters.

I will wait a few days for even more suggestions and then create a poll for us to use to rank our favorites.

47047 I should admit that I have not read the original Dracula by Bram Stoker. Dracula by Bram Stoker
I downloaded it yesterday and started reading it. How many of you have read it? I think I should go back to the original and use it to compare to the modern versions.

47047 I agree that Twilight isn't bad, and cheers to Stephanie Myers for writing a unique twist on vampires.
I was in a major bookstore on Friday, and they have a huge teen paranormal romance section. I am happy to see any writer get published and succeed, but it just seems that some took advantage of Stephanie Myers' success and wrote books that were not very original.
47047 The best and worst part of all your posts is that I now have even more books that I want to read! It seems like there is never enough time to get to them all.
47047 It has been a few years since I read it, but I remember it being about two friends, Sarah and Eric. Sarah suffered disfiguring burns, hence her name, and Eric is still nice to her. He is on the swim team, but purposely stay heavy so he too will have a problem like Sarah.

I can't remember much more except that both characters were memorable and realistic.
47047 I do like dragons who can think. Tolkien was great at this.
47047 What do you prefer? Vampires, witches, ghosts, zombies, dragons...?

Also, what do you think will be the next big thing? I know some people have been talking about mermaids lately, but I haven't read any books about them.
47047 How about Eric "Moby" Calhoune in Staying Fat for Sarah Burns? Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes by Chris Crutcher

I haven't thought about this book for years, but it was one of my favorite YA books, although I thought the ending was a bit weak.
47047 I am always drawn to characters and stories that are different. I guess that is why I can't stand movies with obvious plots. If I can guess what will happen after watching the trailer, then I am not interested.
I went to a bookstore last week and was amazed at all the vampire and wizard stories in the YA section.
I can't really criticize those writers because they did something right to get published and took advantage of what YA readers wanted to see, but I still think it is more interesting to write something new.
The trick is to come up with the next big thing. What J.K. Rowling and Stephanie Myers have done is very impressive
47047 Piggy from Lord of the Flies and Beowulf. Very different I know, but memorable

I live close to Orlando and have been to Universal twice to see The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. They did a really good job with it.
