48724 So, I kinda dropped the ball and forgot to post November's books. I know this doesn't leave you all much time with only 4 days till November buuuut....the good news is that December is a free read so really you have 2 months for these books. Does that help? No? I'm sorry! :)

November's books are The Book of Strange New Things and Everything, Everything.

Sammee feels November is the perfect time to dive into something a little hefty. Plus it covers some of her favorite genres - Dystopian Science Fiction Fantasy.

In typical Sam & Li fashion, I am on the flip side of the coin. Because of the weather changing and the holiday preparations, November is a great time to pick up something a little less demanding. I've heard nothing but good things about Everything, Everything. I'm hoping it's this year's Eleanor & Park (the last YA book we loved as a club).

Hope you enjoy the books!

Happy Reading!

P.S. Don't forget to check out our goodreads Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/BookB...
48724 Once I got into the adolescence sections I really got into the book. The girls are interesting characters. They attract and repel, love and covet, worry and depend on each other. Very real depiction of how it is to grow up with someone throughout your entire life while trying to figure yourself out.
The growing up fast/mature nature never bothered me because that's just simply how it was and I have first hand experience with this. (My great-grandmother got married at 15, my grandmother at 19. Mia's right. Only here in America do we have Peter Pan syndrome galore.)
The ending was annoying but I wonder if Ferrante wrote a complete story and the publishers decided to break it up into 4 installments? Either way, I know I was annoyed because I wanted more. So glad I stuck it out with the book. Book 2 in the new year???

October's Books (1 new)
Sep 28, 2015 08:58AM

48724 Looks like our September books were a hit! There have been some great discussions for both My Brilliant Friend and Ruby. Thank you all for making Book Bodega a great place to discuss and share ideas.

October is 3 days away and that means we need to start organizing our book reads.

This month's books are "Why Not Me?" by Mindy Kaling and "The Devil in The White City" by Erik Larson.

Back in January 2011 many of us read and enjoyed Mindy's first book "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?" so I thought it would be good to check our her latest.

Sammee knows how much we love book to movie adaptations and since The Devil in The White City is in development to be directed by Martin Scorsese, she thought it would be fun for us to get a head start.

Hope you enjoy the books.

Happy Reading!
48724 Having a hard time getting through the book but I'm also finding it difficult to get a good amount of time to read.
All the names are difficult to remember.
Sticking to it though.
48724 Just got the book from the library. Here we go...

48724 Can you believe that summer is almost over?
We've had a good time reading and sharing our summer reads but now it's time to get back to basics...

Books of the Month Time!
:)

As always, we have two books for you to choose from.

Sammee's choice is Ruby by Cynthia Bond. Sammee chose this book because a friend of hers curated a reading list just for her and Ruby was highly recommended. No better reason than positive word of mouth!

My choice is My Brilliant Friend. This is book 1 in a series of 4 novels. It's been a while since BB got into a book series and I thought this story of a decades long friendship between two women that takes place in Italy would be a good option.

Hope you like September's pics.

Happy Reading!

48724 4 more days!! This is great news, Kai!
48724 Water for Elephants is such an amazing book. You'd never know it from its very bad movie adaptation.
48724 Share your thoughts on what you read this summer.

48724 Hi, Everyone!

Hope you're all enjoying Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín and/or Z for Zachariah by Robert C. O'Brien.

I am currently reading Brooklyn and I'm really enjoying it so far. I've never read anything by Colm Tóibín and now he's an author I'd like to get to know.

Now that summer is approaching, Sammee and I have decided to make the summer months Free Read time. From June 1 to August 30, you're free to catch up on your own personal 'to-read' lists. We will not have Books of the Month.

We'll continue posting fun bookish stuff on our facebook page and we'll also open a thread for our summer reads. Here you'll be able to share thoughts on what you're reading.

Around August 24th, we'll post the September books of the month.

Here's to a great summer!
Happy Reading!
48724 Agree.
48724 I don't know...
Two people that are very close to me have dealt with depression all/most of their lives. One took years to admit that that was what they were dealing with. The other is pretty open about their struggle and has learned tobe aware of their symptoms.
Perhaps I brought too much of my own perspective (being honest about their depression) to truly get lost in the story.
