A Survey! (1 new)
Nov 16, 2018 10:44PM

531351 Leah is co-organiser (with Dr Melanie Ramdarshan Bold) of Adolescent Identities, a research project looking at the disconnect between YA readers and the protagonists of YA -- how main characters are, too frequently, white, cis-gendered, heterosexual, able-bodied, religiously ambivalent but also always somehow Christian, and not often working class.

On this project, we're running a survey on reading practices and preferences of everyone who reads YA. We want to know who's reading YA and what you're reading. We'll be sharing the results *everywhere* once we have them!

If you could spare a few moments to take the survey, we'd be forever grateful.

PS - We've aimed for inclusivity but if we've missed something (a nationality, a gender identity, anything) please tick "other" and fill in what we've missed. We'd love it if you let us know what we've missed because --really-- any omissions will be down to human error, not intentions!!!

Thanks,
Leah
Apologies! (1 new)
Nov 16, 2018 10:29PM

531351 We started the YALMCa #SharedRead with the best of intentions but life and a few rocky goes at Twitter chatting... well, we dropped the ball.

We'd like to bring this back in the new year. How would it best work for you? I (Leah) have a few thoughts, but I'd rather our #SharedRead be shared from top to bottom, so I'd love to hear your thoughts!!

Once we've sorted a few details, I'll start a thread for reading suggestions! Let's make 2019 a year of #SharedReads

I love how this book club is making people read outside of their comfort zone. We'd love to have you!

I'll get back to you on that shortly.
May 10, 2018 09:49AM

531351 I think we've picked!

How does the 21st of May at around 6 pm (BST) sound? As Ramadan starts soon, we're hosting this one a bit earlier than normal to hopefully not clash with those who might be breaking their day's fast at the usual time.

531351 Welcome to the spoilery section of Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda! This thread will be full of spoilers. You've been warned!

First things first, did you enjoy the book?

531351 Welcome to our May #SharedRead! This month we're reading Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda. Join us!

This is the non-spoilery section so feel free to let us know about your expectations before reading the book.

I'm finishing off The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton and Sightwitch by Susan Dennard just came up on my library holds!!! I'll be re-reading #CoBaB after those two. :D :D From my initial read, we're going to have so much to talk about!

Fantasy also has my heart!! (For my sins, I did an entire PhD on YA fantasy! OOPS. hahaha). My favourites list is epic, but I'm working on getting it up. -Leah

HA! Me, NEVER. My sister, however, has a horrible habit of reading the last page of a book (apparently so she doesn't stress while reading!).

531351 S.E. Berrow wrote: "When is the deadline for finishing reading this book? :)"

Ah! Yes. Practicalities would be useful. This will be the official read from now until the 16th of April, at which point we'll transition to the new book.

Around the ending of CoBaB's reign, there will be a Twitter Chat, for anyone interested in having a live discussion of the book on that medium. We could also organise something of the sort here, if that's of interest?
